I do agree, it's shaping into by far the best wargames magazine on the market. Mainly cos it's intimately concerned with wargaming, and not endless crappy recycled history articles. Nor is it blatantly plugging the products of a coterie of wargames manufacturers. Let's hope it carries on as it's begun it's renaissance...

I've taken the plunge into this period. I've got my first box of these figures. Now let's hope my paint job will do justice to these superb models. Your my inspiration for this period Captain. Perhaps when I get some of them done I'll post some pictures. I can't hold a candle to Captain Blood. But I don't think my painting is to bad. We will see.

Picked up the magazine, very well done. I do like the magazine, the articles are very easy reading and I would say outstrips WI now for variety and levity rather than 4-5 pages on one article and the obvious and understandible FOW plugging which does put me off a bit.

Guy has done a cracking job a have you.

You must put something together with your FIW and also your Border Reivers as the village is a sight to behold

Just had another look at these and am struck by how goood the pike shafts are, really nicely done but I didn't really notice or appreciate this on tmy initial view because everything else is so stunning
Would you mind sharing the recipe for the wooden bits please Richard?

Hmm. As I recall, the pike shafts are Inscribe / Palmer craft acrylic burnt sienna, highlighted with various amounts of Vallejo bright orange and GW bleached bone mixed into the burnt sienna. Must admit, I usually paint wood grain on pole arm shafts, but these buggers are so long, I couldn't face it, so I just added highlights to the butts and selectively along the length of the shafts... Don't know why I went for a kind of redwood either really, because I usually paint wood a kind of natural pale yellowy brown. But not this time
