 Bought and watched Solomon Kane last night and thought it was good.

 Also go the D&D complete cartoon series in the Forbidden Planet sale too.

I felt Jackie Brown was his best film and one where I thought he'd married his signature style to a story where you actually care what happens to the characters and become emotionally involved for once (rather than just saying "Wow, this is so fucking cool!").

We're agreeing Plynkes. My point was that it was his last best film. It was all over red-rover after that.

My most recent guilty pleasure was going over Fritz Lang's M scene-by-scene ths weekend. It's still one of my favourite films. The treatment of the subject matter alone, given the age of the film, is amazing.
It requires less mental effort to condemn than to think - Emma Goldman

Oh yes, I understood that (I think I may have phrased my post badly, making it look otherwise).

The Relic...I always gave it a hard time, but actually...on a second watching, not bad. A few vaguely Cthulhuish references, slightly better script than needed and a fairly convincing monster. Not great but a worthy waste of weekend time.

Just in from Amazon.co.uk :

* The Sand Pebbles
* Northwest Passage
* North West Frontier
* Rudyard Kipling`s Kim

Really looking forward to The Sand Pebbles, as it comes highly recommended. Kim should be good - atleast the book are seriously entertaining.

The two others are, untill watched, a bit more on the curiosa side of things, but looking forward to watching them anyhow.  :)
Best regards

Harry

1I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I just saw it, so new to me!  Excellent war film. I usually put on a DVD while painting - I couldn't do that for with this film, because i needed to pay attention to the subtitles (there's a dubbed soundtrack in American English, but it sounded weird coming from Russian faces...)

IP Man
First part set in 30s China, then during the Japanese occupation. Based on a true story. Excellent inspiration for pulp games in china.

Oooh, Ip Man, I've been wanting to see that myself. Donnie Yen is such an under-rated action star. And weirdly is looking younger than he did 10 years ago. (The blessing of Chinese genetics, or just a very good surgeon?)

Is I.P. Man the story of a maverick troubleshooting Games Workshop lawyer and his never-ending quest to crush all non-official 40K material?
