Overacting seems to be a recurring feature in a lot of Asian movies. Must be a cultural difference thing.

Planet of the Apes (original) box set, including Beneath, Escape, Conquest, Battle etc

plus the Box set of the POTA TV Series.

Forgive my ignorance but are these movies worth watching?

I haven't seen anything but the Burton one and the 2011 one. Oh and when I was 10 I saw the one were they end up in the circus or something.

But - with regards to getting them now and seeing them for the first time; do they stand the test of time?

It's pretty much a straight line decline in quality through the original five.  Definitely see the first.

Now if you want some quality rough acting you should try Samurai Pirate (aka Sinbad <sic> the Samurai) with Toshiro Mifune. Made in the same year as Rashomon, it's an object lesson in why you need a decent director.

And again, it's a hoot. Has the worst witch-hag in all of filmdom.

Great action scenes, but where to find suitable miniatures for the Seediq Bale?

Beyond the Border is a very good movie involving the Swedes and the Germans in WW2 along the border.

Highly recommended.

Haven't seen it, but I did watch "City of Life and Death" which handles the same subject.
Excellent movie, even if it depicts the ugliest side of mankind.
