Fallout NV Rest Stop more progress *updated 24/05*
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:52:16 PM »
With the purchase of an airbrush, I finaly got to do some more work on my Fallout garage.
just the chipped paint on the interior walls, mind you, because I'm still trying to get the hang of the airbrush and applying the maskol.
I forgot to buy some masking tape (didn't really saw it in the model shop) so the exterior walls will have to wait  :?
progress thus far (building not yet assembled) :

Excellent progress.  sometimes you just gotta build 'em up from scratch to get 'em to look right.

continued with the  PJ :
taped the lines and covered the areas with small dabs of maskol (using a synthetic sponge with large holes, not the blister type sponges)
Some minor issues encountered, the worst being me : I wrongfuly painted the whole rear inner wall of the garage white. Instead of coorecting I'm thinking a mural (advertising something related to the automotive industry) would be nice, but I don't know wether I'll manage that (being new to airbrushing and sucking at freehand drawing..)
anyway, some pics of the not yet assembled pieces :

one issue was the masking tape tearing stuff from the model (the paper, some cardboard strips I glued on and some maskol) :

Also : too much maskol creates too large spots of worn paints or spots whose contours are too well defined. I already touched these up as you can see in the next pic :

I've got an idea to fix that for the next build. Coving adhesive, thinned and painted on all surfaces, will help to key the cut foamboard and gives you a nice concrete finish if you go thin.

Hope it helps

Well, I had already basecoated this building with GW 'roughcoat which is apparently OOP   :-[ so texture was OK.
What I've done in the past is to cover foamcore with diluted tile glue which I think is not so different from the product you're referring at.

P.S. I brought some foamed PVC boards home from Salute, so whatever I'm building hereafter will be in that material and should thus be safe from peeling paperwork.  :)
