Experiment: Gears of War Locusts
« on: 27 May 2011, 12:45:04 AM »
Watched several Gears of War cut scenes and when the Locust soldiers appeared thought “Those look like Orks, sort of.”

Here’s a fast and cheap experiment: Genestealer heads on AoBR Ork Nobz, with shooting bitz. Not perfect but the right direction. I have five more ready for paint.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Brilliant! I think this is huge improvement on the space ork look- very alien, dangerous, and thuggish. I honestly think they look cooler than actual locust heads would. If I could find cheap tyrants heads, would definitely do the same conversion.

Thanks. Picked up all the bitz on eBay for short money.

Yup they work as a kitbash first off definately.

But maybe looking at the source, you could lose some of the bulk of the 'stealers' heads at the rear, make them a little more humanoid on 'roids.

If not no issue as they certainly look the part.

Fantasy Flight Games will have a Gears board game coming out this year....The minis in it (although all plasticy) maybe useable...at least that's what I'm hoping.

CV, are you losing close combat weapons? I know most of the AOBR orks come with them. I may cannibalize some old hourmagaunt heads to do this conversion, but I am not sure I want to deal with cutting out and replacing all those chainswords and axes.

Dude, you are no end of trouble for me these days. Thanks to your threads, I had at least THREE new projects going before this little brew-up of yours.  :D :D :D :D :D

EDIT: I see one has an axe now, and it still looks good. Damn, no more excuses not to do it!  ;)

Dentatus - that idea is just great. I've never been a fan of the Orks, but that little conversion of yours sold them to me!

I've never been a fan of Orks either; too cartoon-y for me. These thugs have a bit more menace and I'm pleased with the way they turned out. I'll post pix of the rest when I'm done.

Thought about the Beastmen Gor heads without the horns? Better without the elongated head and a closer fit for the face.

A very cool idea.  It's surprising how different the figures seem with the new heads.
