Coach Help
« on: 07 June 2011, 03:24:03 AM »
I know where to get a Hansom Cab (Westwind and Eureka) and I already have everyday work wagons and horse carts, but where do I get larger coaches (forget the names--maybe Brougham?)?

Haven't tried myself, but would western stage coaches do? I'd think they could be modified as necessary.

Sedan is another word that isn't getting me jack in a search. ;->=

There is also a wedding table setting carriage that Pappa Midnight converted into a carriage.

Yep, its what I did. I converted several of the Dixon Miniatures Wild West stagecoaches into generic C19th carriages.

Here's one:

And there's another one here:

Skrapwelder- nice idea with the wedding 'treat' I have seen that done before with a cinderella coach from Hobby Lobby, must look into that.

Malamute- lovely conversions, I will definitely have to try that. Dixon is one place to go.

I checked Old Glory/Bluemoon and found loads of wagons (hease, drs. wagon, jail wagon, among others), but no open coach I could swear someone made one.  Maybe I am thinking about the cinderella coach conversion.  With the Lledo one and two horse wagons this will make the 'city scape' come 'alive' for Dracula and his friends.

Looking at the first link, I was about to ask if the tail/trunk wasn't a 'merican addition, as I'd not seen it on coaches in European piccies. 'Shouldn't you cut the rear off?' I thought to myself. Then, I looked at the second, and 'Not THAT much' came to mind.

I looked at the third, and like Goldilocks, declared it 'Just right'. ;->=

Glad to hear it wasn't a total daft idea, say, like using wedding cake ornaments.

Just teasing!

I've, as have others, found wedding cake columns excellent for the occasional ruins.

That tail part is for luggage and on many coaches could be folded up when not in use.  In European photos of urban use I'm sure there was less call for it than on longer trips.

Try this one:

Err, were the prices supposed to have closed my epiglottis? If so, very successful. Lovely, but...  :?

By the way, your link gave me an idea via substitution:
Alas, I am a real person.
I have another theory: Having not anymore enough money to spend on my hobby, I can spend more time on the net, watching your achievements -and always being envy of you, being capable to produce magnificent games/dioramas etc!

Save, my lacking is in talent and grit. ;->=

The first coach is my Borgo pass stage coach, so the rear luggage rack is appropriate, the second one is a privately owned coach, so I just put on one item of luggage. The third represents another privately owned town coach were the luggage rack rack is not required. So Cory is correct in his comments. :D

Brumm makes beautiful coaches for the 19th Century.  Even though they are 1:43 scale they look good with 28mm human figures, but unfortunately the horses available in 28mm look very small.  I've been using the Phoenix 43 horses (expensive but look great with the coaches).  Frankly I tend to think the horses that come with most 28mm wagons look small.  That is certainly the case with the horses that come with the Blue Moon wagons.

War in 15mm - where did you find the Brumm, I checked a Brumm web site but they were all cars? Can you give me a web address, please.

SJ, I look for them on ebay.  I've been picking them up from time to time over the past two years.  It's a slow process unless you want to pay top dollar which can be pretty high, but by checking regularly and being patient, I've bought about a half dozen for less than $20 each.  I've also gotten very lucky twice at my local swap meet/flea market and picked them up for $5 and $3.  In fact, I got the $3 one last Saturday.  The key for me is checking ebay regularly and being patient.  Richard
