Eldritch Barrier: A Second Save?

Playing SA this afternoon and the question came up:
Does the spell Eldritch Barrier provide a second save at 4+ if a model is already behind cover?

Put another way; A model is hit. That model is behind Medium Cover (5+ save) and has Eldritch Barrier cast on them (4+ save). Would there be a saving roll versus the hit for both the Medium Cover and the Spell?

I would think that the Eldritch Barrier save would supercede all other saves so that the model has a 4+ save against any and all hits, regardless of cover.  If multiple hits are scored, the model receives a 4+ save for each hit.

Or like in, and sorry for the dull reference, Warhammer 40k- an Invulnerable save (in this case the Barrier effect) would stack with an Armor save, but not with a Cover save. This is not to save the Invul is always used over Cover or vice versa, just whichever is higher. If you're standing behind a boulder, the rock would prevent the spell effect from ever being taken into account. On the other hand if you're holding up a twig, the Barrier would have a little more of a go at stopping those bullets.

Of course my SA book is still in the mail (and for some time now) so I have no relevant on hands knowledge. Just filling the gap with an educated guess (elongated as always) before the rules lawyers break out.

I have the good fortune to be able introduce SA to some old friends while out of town on holiday.
It's always great to know I can turn to the LAF for input like this wherever I may be.

I will Peabody, and thanks. Just remember though always maximize a potential save, its just the common case here. If there is such a thing as a 3+ Cover save in SA, it would supersede the 4+ Barrier. Think of it logically, that always helps.
