Latest project, messing about with the grav drones from Mantic's Asterian Marionette box.  Got to thinking about the robots from Gamma World, Metamorphosis Alpha, and Expedition to the Barrier Peaks (kids, ask your gamer parents), most of which were floaty droid types with manipulators and mechanical tentacles.  A bit of fishing around in the bits box and look what I made:

Unit EyeKayOhKay

Unit Double Dee

Scale shot menacing the usual Vor rad-trooper:

Thanks.  The various parts were surprisingly good fits, went together smoothly.  Got a couple more to finish up yet, albeit without tentacles.  Might use one of them as Star Wars RPG character droid, actually.

Great stuff!

Am I right in seeing some plastic Warmachine bits in there (the torso)? Plus maybe some Eldar arms (or Mantic Asterians perhaps?) and Adeptus Mechanicus tentacles?

No matter what the bits though; the end result is just awesome and not a little menacing... 8)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Nope, built almost entirely out of the Asterian Marionette box from Mantic - it comes with four big drone bodies (two each of two styles) although you can only build two of them as stock models.  The ball sockets with the tentacles are actually toppers from the Mongoose flight bases, with the tentacles themselves coming from an Isorian drone character from Gates of Antares (the rest of which has been repurposed as a starship mini).

Two other variant builds, more of a rapid response/scout droid design:

These drones are excellent!

Are these hard plastic or the dreaded restic?

I wouldn't be nearly as enthusiastic if they were restic, but these are proper hard plastic.  Not quite as sophisticated as modern GW sprues, but still competently designed and executed.  Even get a few spare parts, most of which are easily repurposed (which is pretty much what the drones here are - none are stock assemblies).

It's V.I.N.C.E.N.T.'s evil twins!  Love 'em.  Something about all that high tech hoverbot holding a bog standard blaster makes me laugh.

They do remind me a bit of Black Hole's bots, although I think that's a combination of the grav mobility and the vague goofiness that parallels the smaller Disney-bots.  Giving them arms has me thinking about what else they could be carrying with further conversions.
