Zulu War - The Sword and the Flame
« on: 21 June 2011, 09:08:40 AM »
My friend and fellow Lead Adventurer, Will Bailie, was in town this past weekend and introduced me to The Sword and the Flame. By "introduced" I mean he ran a game for me using said set of rules which I had previously not had the opportunity to play. I've been aware of TSATF nearly as long as I've been wargaming (frightfully close to 25 years!?) but never seem to be able to track down a copy. Anyway, it was a pretty darn okay game.

You can find a full report of the game and many more pictures over at my blog:

Here's a few pics of the game:

Interesting comments on the rules. I don't use the wounded rules, I find, as you pointed out, that they bog the rules down too much. Use them as a base for your own modifications, and you'll quickly find that there are few, if any, other sets that give a more enjoyable game.
I told you so. You damned fools.

I have to admit that "The Sword and the Flame" are my favorite miniature rules.  They are fun, and after all, isn't that what miniature wargaming is all about.

I'm fond of these rules too, the card based turns allow some mad wild dashes towards victory/certain death in a way which reflects history and most other rules can't touch.

Hi Tim, sorry I've not posted on your blog as I'm having issues with my blogger, however, "The Sword in the Flames" rule set is excellent an I've gamed many a colonial battle using these rules.

Cheers,

Helen
