Containers
« on: June 22, 2011, 11:38:35 AM »
I'm looking for containers in the 28mm scale, something like these on the pic. I know about the AT-43 containers but as far as I know they're not cheap and probably OOP? Though if anybody knows an inexpensive source to buy them, any links/hints would be very much appreciated.

Tablescape make a set of three solid ones in their industrial section

Cheapest option would be cardstock ones, I'm sure there are some on the web available if you search for them

well, they look solide but a bit expensive too. Need lots of them.

Cardstock ones aren't an option to me, plastic ones would be the best.

Worth contacting Renedra and suggesting the idea to them? I'm sure they'd sell shed loads of them. I'd buy them.

Actually, i was in exactly the same position last week until i had a brainwave..

Model Railways!

And found that Hornby make some very nice ones...
And in two sizes... check out your nearest model railway shop or just check out the railway threads on evilbay...

I bought 6 last week for £8! And jolly nice they are too..
A bit of weathering and they look fantastic!

BTW, if you are looking for a suitable container ship, try looking at the Playmobil Cargo ship.... Also a jolly good buy on evilbay....

Again, just needs a jolly good weathering to turn it from childs toy to East African Tramp steamer....

I had a similar brain wave too, but no success yet :) What scale are the Hornby ones? Would it be possible to measure them? Just to get a view of the size.

Or try, Aisnty castings they might have something:

I thought Snapdragon went out of business a couple of months ago? Please correct me if I am wrong, though.

I think the Hornby ones are 00 gauge, i.e. 1/76 scale. Maybe a bit on the small side. Also, the only ones I could see on their website are 30ft, so an intermediate size unlike the more common TEUs and FEUs.

Atlas 0 offer some very good-looking containers in American 0 gauge (1/48):

https://secure.atlasrr.com/ato1/searchresult.asp?PrevBK=400023&NextBK=890001&Nav=N&SW=container&Tp=

But they are ridiculously expensive (30 US$ for a single undecorated 40-foot unit).

I also thought Snapdragon were no longer in production. A shame if so as I have a few of their bits and they're very nice.

That’s the reason why I’ve asked for the size. I’ve seen them on the inet but thought they would be probably too small.

Yep, seen them too, unfortunately OOP and maybe a bit too large with 1:50. I’ve got some 1:50 SIKU cars, they’re not really small. I’ve already ordered four of these containers from a German online shop, would like to check the size before looking for more.
