Well,

they were never really hersey canon as it were, they appeared in the epic space marine plastics, then in the later Horus heresy artwork based on the gaming cards. I'd like FW to redux the original RT dreads personally, I bet they could look very tasty indeed.

The Commander

The Contemptor (Chuck) was one of the original dreadnoughts, along with the Furibundus (Fury) and the Deredo (Eddie), or am I mistaken? I like most of FW's 'pre-heresy' or rogue trader era restyles. This one is indeed rather large but the original idea was that this dreadnought had a pilot rather than a spirit (or whatever it's called). I guess that accounts for the size, I'm sticking with my old RT stuff though 8)

Current Dreadnought fluff has them being piloted by a space marine hero who was horrifically wounded. His life and fighting expertise is preserved by placing the remains of his body into the life support system of a Dreadnought. It's quite possible there isn't much more than a head in there.

Spirit stones are the domains of the Eldar, dreads always contain marines, either in amniote intact or the good bits of heros mortally wounded.

I assumed he meant a machine spirit like that animating a Land Raider.

The dreadnought looks great, with a bit of remodling may make an exellent grey knight addition.

I was wondering where (how) the pilot sits

Is it just me or is this the first GW figure in ages that wouldn't seem out of place in other settings? It's a great model, no doubt, but I can't help but think that it would work perfectly outside of the 40k setting?
