Support of Aircraft?
« on: 03 November 2007, 03:22:12 AM »
Hey guys I noticed in your demo report that the Freikorps had aircraft support.  Do your rules support aircraft or did you just make something up on the spot for that game?  I'm wondering because I need to find some way to include aircraft in my Sky Pirates games and I've not yet picked out a set of rules.

aircraft support are in the rules but they only for support.
I mean you can make a aircraft  attack in one round and if the other player has also a aircraft there is a little fight .
If he has nt you can attack models n the table.

hpe that helps

Ok great.  Just the fact that you have any rules at all for aircraft sounds good.

Hi Nathan,

have look at these rules:

I think they might work with T&T.

Grimm summed it up pretty much. Generally, planes will restrict themselves to "attack runs", but can engage other planes in combat as well, if the circumstances are right.

However, you can also land and takeoff with airplanes, particularly with "Rescue" type scenarios in mind.

That's really the kind of stuff I'm looking for when it comes to the 28mm scale battles.  As a part of a narative campaign I may also used some regular Air combat rules but I'm not really expecting to be able to do squadron scale conflict over a 28mm battle.

Staging actions on Zeppelins offers possibilities, of course... especially if you have an umbrella and a flock of handy seagulls.

Yup. Since the time window in which aircraft act is rather small, the most probable types of arcraft vs. aircraft action would be

a) engaging another airplane with your observer´s pintle-mounted MG as you zoom by
b) strafing a landed airplane to prevent the heroes getting away too easily

and possibly c), although this requires good timing, lining your plane up and catching the enemy in your sights.

I´m looking forward to getting one of Smêrs nice 1/50th scale Fiat Biplanes to support my SCW Nationalists and harass my Republicans´ P-26. Would look far more pulpy than one of those fancy BF109s, even if I could actually find one of the latter in 1/48th scale - you get an aircraft-carrier load of the variants from E onwards, but a simple A or B seems to be unavailable.

The old Airfix 1/48th scale aircraft are grand, but most are WWII.
The Hawker Fury is perfect, however - here's my Hawker Skypirate Demifury, based on the Fury - one pair of wings less, and the minor addition of an aetheroflubber fuel injector

Another possibility is having these chaps annoy - and be annoyed by - flying troops.

Those skulls look positively menacing on that plane, but the Fleurs-de-Lys insignia is the coup de gràce.

Nice Plane Vanvlak.  When I first started my Sky Pirates project I thought I was going to start in 1944 but I couldn't pass up the potential fun of late WWI through the late 30s so now I'm planning on starting some time in WWI.  I need to start working on my planes though.  I did have a P-51C painted up for my 1944 setting.

Nice Mustang Ironworker - would run rings around mine, I guess.  8)
Nice to see a P-51C instead of the more usual 'D too.

I've got some Ds a couple more Cs and I think one B on my workbench but it will be a while before I get to that portion of the campaign.  Right now I've got to find some Newports and Spads and such from the end of WWI.
