A Slaaneshi Daemon Army (NSFW - nekkid chicks, sorta) (update 7-24-11)

Well,  knowing how all of you here (and me too, I'll admit it) like to see projects from beginning to end, I decided I would go ahead and start posting stuff.  Don't get too excited - this is for an army I don't NEED to have painted until next June, so there may be some pirate or Fallout caused delays in places. I still need to go back to those projects too - of course, I don't believe I will ever be 'done' with Fallout.

Anyway, I decided to start a Warhammer Fantasy army based on the Daemons of Chaos I have always preferred - Slaanesh, the Prince of Perversion and Lord of Pleasure.  So, I started collecting Daemonettes, the basic trooper.  I also decided (because I like to be able to multitask my models) that I would paint the Chaos Wastes in the same color scheme I use for Mars in my VSF campaigns ( a rich dark reddish brown) and that way they could also act in my VSF as some oddball Martian beasties.  I have the GW Chaos Temple of Skulls terrain pieces painted that way already, so I was trying to find a way to make a broken slab look.  After some thought, I went to my garage, as in the course of putting in a garden, I found that one corner of my property had been used as a dump point in the past when the former owners remodeled, and I found about 200 little 1.25" square tiles. In a burst of inspiration, out came the hammer.



And so the crafting began. And now, after some work, I have the following on bases.  These are just samples - I now have about 60 of these done.  I have mostly last edition and first edition daemonettes, with one box of the new ones mixed in, and some random Confrontation and other models converted to match.








And for my 'Heralds' (the hero level characters) I have a mix of Hasslefree, Reaper, and a Clan War conversion.




And, as is my wont, I started doing unit filler pieces, because I feel they give more flavor to the armies than just having more troops.  I decided I needed the witch who started the whole thing by summoning the first daemons, and the not-Willow from Hasslefree screamed for attention.


And then a particular Dreamblade model caught my eye -  quick repaint and he'll fit right in...


And have you noticed that if naked boobs are involved, there is the inevitable inclusion of more Hasslefree models?


And a scratchbuilt version of the Slaanesh symbol, that I tried to make look as though it were a globe containing souls...



The next step is to start putting paint on.

And for my first update, my preliminary figure.  I am trying acertain amount of wet blending on these figures, compared to my usual wash and drybruch method, but I am limited on how much I can do in that manner due to a rather aggravating problem with tendonitis in my right elbow that makes the techniques too precise to use easily, but we'll see what happens. 
  As I said, I went for a reddish brown tile to match my Mars terrain, and then decided on a jade green color scheme for between them as though green energies are being summoned. I am going to drag that green into the feet of any of the models involved (or wherever they touch ground) to indicate them appearing from the chaotic flow of power. I am mixing an alabaster skin scheme (over lavender to give it a bit of different tone) with the greens and real color schemes for the claws - like this one, which uses a very real color scheme from a hermit crab - to make it even more 'unreal' and disturbing.



I am not embarrassed by this little lass. And it can only get better as I work on the next 60 or so.

This paint scheme is going away, actually - it was a test of mixing ink with sealer to do a quick and dirty shading about 7 years ago that I never finished.  She will now become one of my Heralds.  At the time, I was doing a 1 drop ink to 5 drops matte sealer style - the sealer pushes the ink into the crevices and shades everything, but it is so thick that it causes issues if you try to touch up over it.  I wasn't overly impressed with it.

Reminds me of the Slanneshi-influenced Chaos Space Marine force I was dreaming up and almost started six years ago... sigh.  Hopefully you'll have more dedication than me!

There's a guy on here recently, Mrdee, who made a Nurgle tournament army. When you've finished that I think that would be one of those dream 'match-up' games.

This project had a dealine one year from now, so I am mixing work on it alongside work on some Warmachine models, my VSF Norwegians, and some more Mars and Fallout terrain. Ahh, the joys of 'ooo shiny" syndrome...
