Big Game Hunt on Venus: now with pictures from the battle.
« on: July 14, 2011, 02:06:21 AM »
In a few days we're going to have a skirmish game for the Venus campaign, using the Chaos in Cairo rules, slightly modified.

I'm planning on taking pictures and doing up a battle report, but in the meantime here is the background:

The Zoological Institute of Progressive International Taxonomists (Z.I.P.I.T.) is offering a reward for evidence and samples of the flora & fauna of Venus: the bigger and more dangerous the better, as that sort of thing drums up public interest, and therefore, donations.

The lions share of the prize is for evidence of the mythological 'Thunder Lord' of the jungle: a picture would suffice, but bringing back the skeleton would be ideal.

Full rules and details on the blog here: http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/07/venus-skirmish-game-big-game-hunt.html

and the battle report is posted later here:

Love the concept, hate the requirement to make organisations in the VSF world have initials that make up stupid words and phrases.

Just me, the proverbial stick-in-the-mud.

A few pictures and my own report on the great hunt:

http://rotanddrivel.com/biggamehunt.html

Draniki attack a Clank

The verdant Cytherean wilderness.

Swedish hunters and their native fyrdmen. (Black Cavalier)

Kneemo's ironclad ruffians. (Alfik)

Allan Quartermain and his retinue. (Leadfool)

My Cytherean hunter, known in Fink-Knottle's Newt cadence as Hiss-slap, turn, turn, shuffle, slish-slide, fox trot, which roughly translated is:Shoots father of Yoo.

His trusty spear carrier, Slish-caw! Martha Graham, Fosse, Fosse, Hip thrust, or simply: Two Grools frakking. He is leading a band of Cytherean natives known as Innyrds.

More pictures on the sight. David (Laughing Ferret), our host, has more I'm sure. What a great game this was. He did a great job putting it all together.

Adding to Mike's pictures & report, here are a few more.

The hunting parties approach the fabled Thunder Valley

But they are not the only ones who hunt in the Cytherian Jungles...

Ambushes occur at every turn

Sven bags his first animal of the day.

But bigger beasts await.

Wonders of the past and technological age match each other up

But there is only one King of the Jungle.

More pictures and long report on the blog here:
http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/07/big-game-hunters-safari-on-venus-battle.htm

4 players entered the jungle, each chose a Big Game Hunter, two had clanks with them, all had an assistant or two and soldiers, and the native Parrotman was the only one to show up with askari, who's shields & spears proved quite useful.

Many trophies were taken for the mantle, and in the case of Quartermaine, his prize trophy was carved into a mantle, since he had nothing too impressive to put on one  ;)

I must heartly concure with Skrapwelder, Mr Laughing Ferret ran an excellent, both with beautiful & a wide range of monsters, & also a great job stat-ing them all out using the Chaos in Cairo rules.

Each of the hunting parties had a photographer along, so below are the pictures snapped by my Big Game Hunter's camera assistant.

First trophy kill, will look great over the mantle at the club.

Confronted by native aggressors

Second trophy kill, unfortunately there was more gas in this thing than Gladstone, so nothing left to mount.

It's mother attacks

And now it's a family affair

Did get a few pieces from this one, the spine might make a nice walking stick

Then a thunderous roar shook the jungle

Luckily he was more interested in Quartermain than Swedish Buffet

A long shot of the thunder lizard, which is the best way to photograph it

And finally, the most docile and tame of creatures, a Markadon aka "the Bushwhacker"
Remember, remember, the Dalek December
With Paris in ruins and London in ember
In times of the future when fears are abating
Don’t try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting
Quietly planning and scheming and hating…

Markadon, hey I resemble that guy.

It was a great game.  Even if Quartermain would have done better bringing a weedwhacker then a rifle.  I killed 3 fast nasty lizards, 3 or 4 Draniki warriors, wounded a giant Mosquito bug, and killed a dozen walking trees.  The Thunder lizard was was in my sights when the Parrotmans shot rang out and got the big kill.
