Stripping vinyl models
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:50:55 AM »
At the Bring&Buy at Crisis, I got hold of an old vinyl model of the Alien pilot. It was half-painted, so I sprayed it white, but I discovered to my dismay that the colours bleed through the primer, so the model is now all ghastly pink! And even more annoying, there is quite a lot of dust in the nooks and crannies, which is now firmly glued down with the spray primer.

Now I'd like to strip the whole thing, but am a bit afraid, since I've never tried this with a vinyl kit before, and I don't want to ruin it.

If anyone could tell me what solvents can be used safely with vinyl, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jens

The query "farbe von vinyl bausätzen entfernen" at Google resulted in some dollmaker's tips for removing colour from their, ahem, babies without damaging their skin.

Apparently, they use a stuff called 'Oranex' which should be based on the oils contained in the skin of oranges.

Coincidentally, I use a very similar stuff at the place I am working for... ah, I will spare You the details(for now)!

Furthermore, we something similar to clean our home as well, so if You bring the kit on Saturday, we could check if this stuff works on our, ahem, babies...

Google. How obvious. I'll try it myself someday.
