TUSK! Mammoth hunting at Horisont III (Esbjerg, Denmark)
« on: July 31, 2011, 08:36:50 PM »
This project was originally posted on the Danish forum Powerfist, but by request I am putting it here and translating to English, so more people can follow what I am up to.

The project is for the Horisont III convention in November.

Tusk is a fun simulation of mammoth hunting during the late Stone Age.

Each player represents the leader of a hunting faction within a tribe, and as such will control spear- and bow-armed hunters, hunting dogs, and those mysterious individuals who have harnessed flame - the Firemakers.

The game game will be set up for 2-4 players.

The first thing I did is markers for burned earth:

Cardboard with gravel.

Basdecoated with Gesso.

base colours.

Done.

With caveman for scale.

I will probably glue some grass turf onto the unburned ground on the markers, but as they are now they are easy to package and transport.

Coming up next is the fire markers.

The fire:

Washers for bases.

Aquarium cotton wool.

With caveman for scale.

Sprayed black.

And left to dry the night over.

Painted yellow.

A little darker yellow/orange added.

Dark orange added.

With a caveman for scale.

Done. There will need to be a bit of gravel added here and there where the washers are visible.

Maybe the fire is a bit over the top, but I think it will work ok.

When a caveman sets the groun on fire a cardboard marker and a fire marker is placed and if the fire goes out, the fire marker is removed and the cardboard marker is left, to show that the same place can't be burned again.

Very Nice!
Copplestone had a sale on their cavemen last month, so I picked them up, have some toy mammoths and planning to build up a set.

Very nice ground fire tokens.   I'll have to try something similar!

I also converted a couple of the cavemen to hold burning brands, similar to what's shown here, so there would be some fire-makers.

Yeah, I also took advantage of the Caveman sale, I think the models are great, I look forward to painting them up.

I have not been able to make much progress. Because my wife and I have just moved to a new place, there has not been so much time and money that I would have liked to use on the project.

But I have been painting on my cavemen, when time permitted, but I don't have any pictures right now.

Here is a picture of a couple more mammoths.

Four DeeZee mammoths, which I was able to buy from Spirit Games.

Even though there was a snowstorm, people had been driving from Copenhagen and still made it, so snowstorm is no excuse  ;)
