Gripping Tales of Adventure!
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:25:08 AM »
I recently moved from Vancouver, and got together with some gaming buddies in my old hometown of Ottawa (whom have gamed with me for 20+ years!) to give my homebrew ruleset Gripping Tales of Adventure a whirl. It was a good time, though there's a lot of kinks still to iron out. It was also the first time I had all my jungle terrain laid out on my new 2x2 gaming boards (we used 2 of these boards for this game).

The premise was painfully simple.. a band of intrepid explorers/adventurers try and find ancient idol located somewhere on a mysterious, uncharted island somewhere in Indonesia whilst avoiding Chinese pirates guarding the area from treasure hunters.

I thought I'd share some pics of the game. Enjoy!

Great jungle terrain. I do love it so. But  I never seem to have enough of it.  ;D

Fantastic looking scenery  :-*

Apart from needing to iron the rules, how did the game go? Did they find the idol?

Thanks lads. Indeed they did. It was a hard fought battle with the tough Chinese bandits. Especially Lady Ming who just didn't seem to want to stay down!

Wow.  What a nice spread.  And everything looks like they go with everything else.  Love it.

Looks great!

Your BIG palm trees are wonderful. Where did you get them?

Any chances you can share with us some more details about your "Gripping Tales of Adventure" rules?

Thanks a lot and best wishes.

I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Seconded! And the rope bridge?

I guess most of the ruins are aquarium deco?

I just had a vision of my elevated table with a sheer rock surface added down one side (plus a river at the bottom), while another table with some rocks with a narrow path leading up to a rope bridge connected to the 'plateau' is placed at normal table level beside it...  ;D

And when my garage attic has - hopefully soon - been made ready for gaming room, I may even have the space required to build and store some of the terrain I'm dreaming off  ;)
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Not sure, but the rope bridge looks to be one that Miniature Building Authority was selling last year.

Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

Thanks for the compliments chaps. Tom nailed it. The bridge is indeed the one from MBA. The trees were from an online party supply store. They're quite large and were meant to be luau table center pieces for parties. I'll try and dig up the link. They wouldn't sell to non-US addresses so I had to enlist the help of a good friend living down in the States to help me out.

As for the rules, they're a d20 set heavily influenced by the Star Wars and D&D miniatures games, with some of my own major tweaks and additions. Some d20 RPG stuff added in too. Part minis game, part RPG. We had fun with it. Lots more tweaking me thinks.
