All very nice, but where is the man eating the plant?

The idea is just GENIOUS!

AS for the tongue... I personally don't like it. Maybe if you make it shorter?

As you said, paint job may change alot the look of the mini.

Anyhow, This is just such a brilliant idea, I'll have to check some nuts to try my hand at it.

Thanks for sharing.

What he said. The whole thing is coming along fine but for the tongue.
The fact that it hangs out of the mouth makes it look rather exhausted. I'm guessing you want that plant to be a vision of raw power.
You could try a more snake like tongue, sticking out instead of dangling out.

I like the idea of the tongue, but it currently looks a little too long too me.  It looks like it might have a lisp when/if it spoke...

...which might be what you are after too I suppose.

I know we're not aiming at 'realistic' here, but my kids both have a Venus Man-Trap, and none of them have tongues - I thik you're nearing something like this, though:

The idea with the walnut is great, and I'm going to steal it, certainly!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's really appreciated.

I wanted the tongue to look "drooling" which is why I wanted it long. I also wanted it to be slightly tentacle like to wrap around victims and draw them in.

I'm still sure that the pre-paint state of the model alters the perception of this but I hear the comments which echo my own uncertainty. It's easy to detach it later so for now I'm going to concentrate on the leaves and base. I may have really messed this up by not having a more textured base before I began modelling so I'm going to try and do the lower work first.

Ran out of super glue last night too ....  >:(

Oh and some direct comments ...

Dr.Falkenhayn: Those Ramshackle Games ones look nice, good for idea's but a little small for my game. When I bring this out I want the players to get a real shock.
Red Orc: Terragenesis is another good site. I think I may have had the idea about the pipe cleaner and tape from there. However, as it turns out that is the worst put together part of the model. The pipe cleaner is not really strong enough to support the walnut shell. I should have doubled or tripled the pipe cleaner, and added some stiffer wire.
FramFramson: I'm doing the leaves in a similar fashion to the one in your link. The test leaf has come up really well.
snitcythedog: Yup that's the look I want, just a bit more Jungle Monster.
Doomsdave: Nice Man Eating Plant you have there, for me though the plant pot would have to go, it's just not "Jungle"!
Ray Rivers: Thanks, I'll keep posting.
Ramshackle_Curtis: Technically it's nuts-shell ;-) I had to buy a pack of the damn things, about 30 or so. I am trying to convince my wife that a Date and Walnut cake should find it's way into the oven.
The Somnambulist: I think the Little Shop of Horrors has the archetypal man eating plant so my thoughts must have been strongly influenced by it. The big mouth just screams, "I am not just going to eat you I'm going to chew you up".
cheetor: That's another nice pulp model, I know what you mean about the eyes though. I think a few highlights would really improve the model, (true of all hero click figures?)
Commander Vyper: Awww sweet mini-plant. I have seen the pulp models site and purchased more than a few models from there.
Rob_bresnen:Thanks.
janner: You have to kill it first, tastes like asparagus.
magokiron: Good idea to make the tongue shorter, I might try that later.
zizi666: Yea, I wanted drooling but instead it may look parched!
Argonor: Thanks for the picture, very interesting. I once many.... years ago have a venus fly trap too. I think that's a alternative look for the project but I went off the Walnut shell and I think perhaps you have to take it in a different direction when you do that.

I just had a vision: Fake eye-lashes as the teeth/small tentacles surrounding the 'mouth'?

Disaster, broken a drill bit, knocked a tentacle off and forgot to get more super glue for the leaves ...

Next Update...

It's pretty much donne now. Since the last update I've added some thick wire to the main stem to better support the head (much better), painted/flocked the base, painted the tentacles and added the leaves and painted them. Painting the tentacles was a difficult job. I had to disassemble the model to paint and drill holes for the wire leaf stems. In hindsight, it would have been much better to make the holds with a small bit of wire when the miliput was soft.

All that's left is the mouth. I am tempted to paint it red, but I like the earth colours. Do I paint the walnut?

You model is getting better and better.  :-*

My own experience with aliens/monsters is that when you choose a "rare, odd looking" colour for some parts of the model, the thing misses impact.

I mean, for us, theet are white-ivory right? but for an alien/monster they can be any colour.

WRONG!

When I've painted theet, entrails, bones, tongues, blood, etc, in "alien" colours, they just look funny, and don't deliver the right idea.

So, IMHO, yes, the interior of the mouth shoud be pink and red.

As for the walnut, it really is your choice, but some vibrant color can make it stand out even more.

Hope that helps.

Looking great!

Really like the paint job so far.  I'm sure you will figure out the rest by yourself...  ;)

I love it too. I'd paint the walnut in a yellowish green tone and the inside of the mouth red/pink, but that's just me. Some kind of purple could also work for the inside of the mouth. Whatever colour scheme you choose, I'm sure it'll be stunning. I might just steal your idea too!

Yours truly,

Sir Dryden
