http://www.rebelpublishing.net/resources/Age_of_Blood_2nd_Edition.pdf

You need to download 1st Ed., too, as the Fate Deck description is not included in 2nd Ed. - I fiddled a bit with the pdfs and made a version of 2nd Ed. with the missing pages included - you can always PM or mail me with a gmail-address or similar to get that one.

Sorry for the thread-jacking, but it is VERY much in theme with the OP  ;)
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

They look like a very good set of rules! You'll be getting a PM in a minute or two. They remind me of a cross between Mordhiem and Battletroll.

They also make me want to go back to using individual figures again! Argh! The only problem I'd have is that I'd end up doing figures for every region it would be possible to visit - Skraelings, moors, franks, saxons, picts, Finns, etc etc. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad, as they'd have been smaller sized groups of figures though...It's also Mid-late dark ages again, and I'm still trying to concentrate on the earlier period... not that I would have thought that it'd make too much difference to anything..... hmmmm *ponders removing figures from bases*

(As an aside, I don't suppose anyone makes any 28mm Saami figures do they? I guess I might have been able to improvise some out ofa mix of viking types, eskimoes/innuits & blackfoot indians if I hadn't sold them.... whoops)

They look like a very good set of rules!

I think they are, and I'm probably going to start using them on a smalle scale than intended - still a bit heavy on details here and there, but obviously the result of a love for the Viking Age.

They also make me want to go back to using individual figures again! Argh!

I only EVER base my minis individually! I have a strong dislike for 25/28 mm games that use 'stands' of figures, prefering to use smaller scales for those.

The only problem I'd have is that I'd end up doing figures for every region it would be possible to visit - Skraelings, moors, franks, saxons, picts, Finns, etc etc.

A problem that I'm going to solve by not having a ship available at first - in rpg-style, my players will have to join a Jarl or Hersír to go abroad. That way I can control what kind of opposition they meet. No random encounters for me, please!  ;)

I'm not quite sure, but I have a vague feeling that I've seen Saamis somewhere... Maybe in the Shieldwall supplement for Warhammer Ancient Battles? Don't know if they were conversions, though...

Thanks for the rules - haven't read them fully, but some of their upper force limits seem a bit optimisitc for a free flowing game!

Up until this project I only ever used to base the figures individually, but I had seen lots of very nicely done figures on unit bases that I thought I'd give it a go as I couldm't find any skirmish rules that would work for what I had in mind.... In terms of scale, I've only got 28mm figures - not entirely sure why, but I usually end up choosing them over anything else.

It's a good idea to limit the groups ability to travel - it certainly cuts down the demands on scenery and  figures! (Although  I may have to track down copy of shieldwall to have a flick through to have a look at the Saami figures)

I have it, I think... If I can find it, I can scan any pages with pics of Saami.

I was also thinking of including a big alien critter as a nod towards Outlanders... but I'm strulling to think of anything that looks suitably beastial; best I can think of off hand is the new GW Carnifex...
[I was also partly tempted to use Alien 'greys' for the norse gods, as a stargate reference, but I think I'll keep to the traditional images)

Really nice concept - you have a great looking themed army developing there.

Could you give us a list of where you got the minis from. I recognise a fair few of them but there are some I don't have a clue on - for example those nymph types. I have a need for something similar in an upcoming project and these look like they would suit me fine.

Thanks - What'll I'll do is added a description of the miniatures sources in the blurb underneath the pictures... might be easier than just having a list

Thanks - 1 of the frost giants is from Alternative Armies (with lots of details shaved off to make it more Dark Age and less generic fantasy), whilst the other 2 are 54mm Vikings/Saxons, from The Foxwood Company's 'Stamford Bridge' range... they don't have a website yet, but if you drop me a line I know the owner of the company...

Not a proper update, as I'm awaiting a few more figures to arrive so that I can make up visually pleasing elements. Here's what I've painted thus far:

Generic bishop & christian lady (Cleric) [Westwind & WI freebie]

Generic germanics (Warband) [Foundry & GB]

And the latest additions - looks like I need to dust/blow the remains of the static grass off them... whoops. Atlest folks can get the general idea!

Wyrm (beast or behemoth) [Grenadier?]

Generic Hero [Hasslefree]

Suebi Warriors (Warband) [Foundry - later style shields, so they fit a bit better with the rest of the forces; I'm saving the oddly shaped celtic shields for use with some vaguely fantasy celts]

Suebi hunters (shooters) [Foundry]

Suebi army so far

Migration Era Saxons/Angles/Jutes/Frisians awaiting paint....
