New to these forums
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:31:56 PM »
All,
Well hello.  I am Brian Weathersby, and go by the handle BrianW on TMP also.  As handles go, it is descriptive enough (albeit not very imaginative) so I thought I would go with it here as well.

I've read LAF before, but never became a member.  I've decided to change that for various reasons that I don't feel like airing right now.  So here I am, looking forward to being on another forum.  Hopefully I will be able to contribute something to some of the discussions.  My main interests are historical, to wit: Age of Sail, American Civil War, World War II and now Vietnam.  I'm not terribly good at introductions, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

mweaver,
That is very nice to hear, and very reassuring coming from you.  I sent Neotacha a PM over at TOP (The Other Page), but don't know if she got it or not.

There are quite a few familiar faces around here.  Probably more to come.
More fantastic painting and terrain projects than you have time to follow as well. Very inspiring site.

It is indeed with an "s."  However, I have been a complete and utter *bleep* many times in the past, so I could be the same guy you're thinking of! lol

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.  I don't post a lot, even at TMP, but I am looking forward to doing so here.

Bezzo,
As for ACW, it is just land.  I have yet to find any sea/river rules that really jumped out and grabbed me.  My ACW minis are actually the oldest ones that I still have left, as I started painting them in the late 1980's, and they were originally based for Jonhhy Reb 2.  I did do AOS games back in high school (1980-1983), but none of those ships survived the various moves and whatnot.  Right now, when I do play ACW, which I have not in a while, I use They Couldn't Hit An Elephant by TooFat Lardies.  I am a big fan of TFL rules, and I also use their I Ain't Been Shot, Mum rules for WWII.

Most of my WWII stuff is Soviet/German, although I am starting to branch out some.  I have some Japanese figures that I've painted, and some US Marines that I bought painted from another fellow.  I have some desert Brits done, some Italy campaign Brits that I am painting, and am going to pick up some US stuff in the near future.  I guess you could say that I am slowly moving towards doing it all, at least from a land perspective anyway.  I have a few 1/285 scale aircraft for WWII air combat, but they just haven't gelled with me yet.

As to scale, well all the land stuff is 15mm.  Being a cheap so-and-so, I decided to standardize so as to be able to use as much terrain as possible across time periods.  My spouse is very supportive of my hobby, although even she blanched when she looked over my shoulder at the Excel sheet and saw how many painted WWII figures I have.   The exchange went something like this:

"You have over a thousand world war II figures?"
"No hon, I have over a thousand PAINTED world war II figures."
"Well, how many unpainted ones do you have?"
"No one counts those; down that road lies madness."

On the other hand, as I have pointed out to her, it is still a cheaper hobby than golf, photography or model railroading.
