Space Hulk at Gubbspel Galore II
« on: September 10, 2011, 08:23:31 PM »
I was able to bring the full set of my Space Hulk board to GG II when Anpu offered to give me a ride. The full set? Well... 12 of the sections were still unfinished and existed only as floors without the walls, but it was playable. Only two of the scenarios got played, though, 1:1 Suicide Mission and 1:3 Rescue. I was a little lazy taking pictures of the various boards, and have only one decent picture of my own game...

This was taken right after the last Terminator was killed by the flood of Stealers.

Very atmospheric. :o

Can I suggest a black cloth underneath next time to darken it down......  ???

Better still : black cloth with stars and nebulas airbrushed on it. (although I have to admit I don't have one myself   ::))

Very cool board.   :-*

The stars and nebula idea sounds cool - I'll see if it's doable. But the idea of bringing a cloth came up during play, as the small school desks had very slippery surfaces - and I was just a little bit afraid that the desks should separate enough to let the board sections drop down into the sudden chasms... No accidents, fortunately!

That looks bloody fantastic! Seen a few 3D Hulk set ups and been tempted to have a stab myself, though never got beyond the initial excitement of the idea.

The starscape mat looks interesting!

The corners, crossings and T-crossings weigh about 250-275 grams each, the corridors weigh approximately 100 grams per square of length - 500 grams for the long corridors, for example. The rooms vary between 750 and 850 grams.

All weights are approximate.

The corridors, including the corners - 8 kg
The crossings and T-crossings - 3.5 kg
The six rooms - 4.9 kg

Total: 16.3 kg (or actually somewhere between 15 and 17 kg)
The full set can be accomodated in 6 Muji boxes (with 2 drawers in each), and 2 of these boxes will squeeze-fit into one of the large plastic Ikea bags. Each fully loaded Ikea bag will weigh about 5 or 6 kg.

Hmmm... I wonder if it would be possible to build a game board inspired by the first Stockholm Ikea store... :-)

As commander of the terminators that are not on the board in that picture above, I should have listened to the woman who said "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Anyway, it was a true privilege to play on that awesome board. Thank you Willypold!

Looks great, I'd love to see some more pics.
Next time you set it up remember to take some close ups too.

There will be a lot more pictures of this set in a little while - I have some ideas for the presentation of the board sections and I'm also planning a more detailed workbench post about the construction. As soon as the current workload is somewhat alleviated, though!
