I read this thread and I have to say, it's a little strange.
First things first, though: Hallo all, I'm Garanhir, another new member from the UK. Brummielad and I have oddly similar stories. What's doubly odd is that I'm from the Black Country, just a handful of miles down the road from Brum.
I sort of drifted away from the miniatures side of things nearly twenty years ago; just picked up the odd figure, mostly RPG con freebies and such, in the years since then. I played RPGs as often as ever, but I got the notion in my head that miniatures "distanced" one from the "immediacy of the roleplaying experience", and similarly silly stuff like that.
If I'm completely honest, it's probably because I was almost completely skint most of the time and simply couldn't spare the cash for miniatures, but the excuse got stuck in my head for years. From time to time I got the old urge to "paint something", but it never really amounted to much. This year, though, things changed (mostly because I'd lost the box with my old miniatures in it and if I wanted to paint, I'd have to jolly well buy something!), and suddenly I'm completely hooked again. A lot's changed in the world of little metal wotsits, I have to say, and I've had a lot of catching up to do.
I was bound to wash up here sooner or later, and here I am.
