SoTR start with test piece
« on: September 23, 2011, 07:03:37 PM »
So, I decided to jump into SoTR after being out of painting and gaming for a few years due to "real life".
Perusing this fine forum along with the SoTR forum convinced me to start a couple small forces for US Paras and German FJs.  This will give me a small start to learn the game and help demo it at the new store that opened by me.
Anyway, I wanted to test out some paint schemes for my US Paras and use the *Dip method, as I have never used it before.  I am hoping it will make getting a force ready fast as I usually paint glacially slow.

After rounding up a couple of old Warzone minis I had laying around I went to work.  I figure I can use them as stand in Sentinels for my US SotR foce for a while.

Here's the first I started on.  He just needs basing done. *Dip was brushed on, no dipping or shaking took place.

Not the best pictures, but I was in a hurry.

Ok, got some more done.  Finished up the alternate Sentinel and started on actual Airborne.
I am going to use my mortar team to test uniform schemes on, since I figure they'll be one of the least used teams in SoTR.

I'm mainly trying to see which M1942 pattern looks better.  The Sentinel fatigues are Vallejo Dark Sand over German Camo Beige.
The mortar assistant's uniform is straight Dark Sand.

Both are over a white prime, and brush/dipped with a dark Ployshades varnish.

Pics are kinda crappy, I haven't been able to put together a proper lightbox while dealing with a toddler at the same time.  Just getting stuff painted is as good as it gets right now.
Basing isn't finished. I need to add some grass so they don't look like they're in a mud field.

Anyways here you go!

They are looking good. The first guy is indeed a very "chunky" human, I would hate for my forces to be up against him on the gaming table.
