Japanese zombie test piece
« on: September 21, 2008, 01:14:40 PM »
A quick try-out for a Japanese zombie. The figure is a TAG casualty figure with a Spyglass zombie head. Maybe I should have gone for a bluish skintone for better contrast...

That is a good zombie conversion. Nice to see something different.
For other asian theater WWW, what about John Jenkins terra cotta zombie warriors, hopping vampires, and jade mummy? A storyline of Chang Kai Shek (sic) "discoverring" them and putting them to use against the Japanese.
Another idea would be a shadow war between ninjas and shaolin monks, or shaolin monks conducting covert ops in Japan, maybe attempt capturing the emperor.
Iguess these are no longer available, too bad they were sweet minis, still a cool idea.

I have a few ninja conversions with WW2 weapons added. They're on the "to paint in near future" list. ;)

And I have the hopping vampires too (I think), never got around to getting the terracotta zombies though.

Got some monk figures from Pulp Figures and Hasslefree, so that idea isn't so far fetched either.

That really is very good.  :)

How come you don't see much weird stuff that isn't German or American? I know there are a few Russian bits making an appearance now, but its still mainly the two forces.

I have a plan to do a British Occult Commando section, but I'd like something a bit more unusual to pit them against. I suppose Rumanians or Finns would be easy to do, since they had German equipment, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of wiggle room otherwise.

I like the ninja conversions - they look like they are sraight out of the James Bond film You Only Live Twice  :)

At some point I will put together a small force of WWW2 Japanese for skirmish games. I was looking at converting LMG armed figures from The Assault Group into some form of assault weapon (and maybe sculpt gasmasks onto some):

I picked up miy figures from here (8 figure packs at bargain prices):

I have most of the TAG Japanese and a good part of the Brigade Games ones (they work well together).

It's true you see mostly German and US weird war minis, though West Wind is at least doing some Brits and Russians.

...West Wind is at least doing some Brits and Russians.

Yeah, that's true.

But they aren't that great really. Some of the Russians are cool, but the Brits I've seen are pretty dreadful.  :(

It's because most of them are just regular brits with gasmask heads and the problem with the heads is that the helmets are way off.

There are a few random British weird war models from other ranges (BAM, those commando girls from Warmacre, ERM).

Yep, got, or am planning on getting, all of them. (Although the Warmacre girl's gun snapped off as soon as I looked at it, very thin casting. Needs to be reattached or replaced.)

This is a project for next year, anyway. Needs planned carefully so I don't waste money, and know exactly what I need and from where.
