U.S. 5th Gashant Cavalry on Mars

While I'm waiting for the Hill Martian molds to be done, I've been doing some minor conversion work for a game at Fall In. Here is the first of the U.S 5th on Mars.



The gashant is one of mine from the herd pack. The rider is a slightly modified Blue Moon plains wars cavalry figure. If time allows, I'll add a thread bridle and reigns.

Yes, fore legs are missing, but on purpose.



The gashant in space: 1889 is one of the silliest designs ever made, but there it is. The latest ebooks have updated this. The forelegs are removed by "civilized" Martians to make them easier to handle. Gashants in the wild have seriously wicked claws.

Silliest design ever?  It's a slightly modified form of the common therapod body type, not even wildly alien.  Even the claw removal is hardly an outrageous idea - functional equivalent of dehorning cattle, which is everyday practice in the real world.

Their saddle designs are probably a bit off the mark for realism (you'd probably want a much higher cantle and  multiple cinches ) but the gashants themselves look fine to me, just alien enough.
