Pulp Robots, Alien Creatures and Star Command
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:53:26 PM »
Hi all:

In the Star Wars miniatures range there are a lot of miniatures suitable for use in Pulp Games

For instance, this so-called Telosian Tank Droid is a perfect piece of Pulp machinery that can also act as Machine-Of-Doom. Shown with a Bob Murch's Evil Scientist for scale comparison. It only needs a little weathering to be perfect!

This other droid, a Vyper droid, is another good Pulp Metal Menace or Fantastic WOrlds element

This giant spider is another great Alien menace or even a nice piece of alien terrain

And finally, here is my choice of miniatures to play the Countdown to Peace scenario in fantastic worlds.

First of all, Commander Griff Ingram, Dr. Nix, and two Young Eager Space Cadets (Old Republic Troops and Commander, and a Mon Cal Medic)

And now, the evil Emperor Grimm with his Captain of the Guard and a Palace Guard (Mandalorian troopers and Darth Revan)

Soon, I'll show my choices for "The Robin Hood of Regulus VII"

There are a lot of good figures there I've never seen before. I really like the Old Republic troops as pulp figures. That first robot is excellent too.

I've collected a lot of cheap Star Wars figures. Mostly generic rabble for a Cantina brawl I want to stage at some point.

Mo, you can have a good look a most of the existing SW Miniatures here:

http://www.rebelscum.com/SWMinis.asp

They are classified by Expansion, and the two latest ones (Alliance & Empire, The Force Unleashed) are not yet finished. Being Pulp in nature, Star Wars minis are a good source of figures for gaming Fantastic Worlds. As I grew up with the classic trilogy, Imperial and Rebel troops are too established in my mind to use them as anything non-Star Wars, but the New Trilogy and the Expanded Universe offer a lot of possibilities.

Have a look at the Sith, Old Republic, Mandalorian and Fringe factions: a lot of fantastic miniatures there to use.

Really like the spider - very nasty.  Would make an excellent CoC "Spider from Leng". The Mandalorian troopers would make good super heroes in armoured suits, or bad guys...
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

There are many possibilities in that miniatures catalog. My photos are awful as I do them when I arrive home night and light is really poor, but here are two more examples of the miniatures I'll use for the droids in the "Robin Hood" solo scenario of Fantastic Worlds:

Worker Droids: I'll be using the two sith droids at the right, but as you can see there are many possibilities... including the always faithful astromech droids (not pictured, but everyone knows who I'm talking about)

Battle and Bodyguard Robots: Of course, Trade Federation Battle and Super Battle Droids

What are the two on the right? They look like good mech droids for Fantastic Worlds.

It is the Knobby White Spider or something like that. It is in the "The Force Unleashed" expansion but not yet on the Wizards Galleries. A "star wars white spider" search in eBay will give you a lot of items.

Sorry, Rich, I didn't see your post before. They are Sith Assault Droids. Number 15/60 in the Champions of the Force expansion. As they are "Uncommon" they are very cheap on eBay.

Those are great! I took my first SW 'fix' only a week ago - and suddenly a whole world of endless possiblities seems to open  :D

Just now I'm painting a triple of 'Arizona'-style cliffs for use in my first Gutshot game (finished the last mini I needed for the game just a couple of days ago) - but in the meantime I guess I'll have to go shopping for some more SW stuff. The game in itself seems to easily convert to tabletop, anyway, so no money will be spent in vain (and my local game store still has AT-ATs  :o )
