Looking for a good game
« on: November 27, 2007, 06:11:07 PM »
Hey guys,

New guy in the forum! I joined the board because I got myself pulled into Pulp recently (and bought Artizan Thrilling Tales models, germans, stuff from Artizan and a fantastic Abomination by Dark Age). The next thing I need is a good game. I do have .45 Adventures but I'm not a big fan of the game system. I am looking for a skirmish game with few miniatures on each side so I can play games similar to 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' or 'Indiana Jones'. Any good tips?

Thanks,

Marijn :)

I don't know if it's good - though I like it - but you should try Chain Reaction II from  TwoHour wargames : the system is fun, pretty original, and is free

If you're looking more toward skirmish games and not adventure games, for Weird War II you could see what Westwind has out for their Secrets of the Third Reich game. For Indiana Jones, I would look at Triumph and Tragedy (promoted right here on this forum).

You can also try AE-WWII from Darkson Designs. You can download an starter ruleset from their website and then upgrade to their recently published rulebook.

Astounding Tales!

You need Astounding Tales!

Good grief, don't the rest of you know that by now?

Do I have to come here and tell you that you need the rules written by my favourite game designer: me.

I strongly recommend SuperSystem!
It is a Superhero game but can be easily modified.

The upcoming Holiday special even has 3 linked weird war scenarios!

Thanks for the input and tips guys!

Supersystem eh...never thought about that one. I guess the 4-goal system is very suitable for this indeed! I do have a copy of SS2 at home so I'll keep that one in my mind :). I will also check out the other systems mentioned in the thread.

And I'm also working on a set of rules during my breaks at work by the way :). If I'll finish that one, I'll post it here.

SoTR won't work, its platoon sized. By small I assume you mean 5-20 in which case I'd advise AE WW2. Mind you plenty of rulesets are adjustable (Nuts for instance) into WW2.

I'd second the suggestion for Nuts!  there are some files of Weird War stuff in their Yahoo Group you can use for Castle Wolfenstein.

Also Legends of the Old West from Warhammer Historical, a nice simple system that works well for Pulp and Weird War games.
