Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath ideas
« on: 24 October 2011, 07:20:37 PM »
Having been away for far too long (from both gaming and Lovecraft's works!) I'm about to embark on a new project...

... Randolph Cater and his Dream-Quest. The idea is for a small collection of models to represent some of the creatures that appear in this story. I'm looking for suggestions for Randolph himself as well as Night Gaunts and even maybe a Shantak-Bird. I have the Ghouls already, these fellas...

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcROssI70qnBOwBlygosSlRQPj2iwEPd0qSEkCx-8qNNlBmYpQ-P

They're roughly 28-30mm scale but a couple of them are crouching on their haunches so should be easy to match up to other 28mm stuff.

So... Any ideas? Suggestions?  ???

For Randolf Carter, first choice would be Uncle Mike's Agent Lovecraft. Artizan's Doctor Salamander would be a decent proxy. There are plenty of Night Gaunts around. RAFM's are nice. You could use a dragon for a Shantak. For instance this one: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/dragon/sku-down/03430
Anyway, that's a cool project! Keep us updated!

RAFM do quite a few of the dreamland figures. Like ghast, ghouls, gug, nightguant and moon beast. They have a box set with a dhole. Think reaper dose a gug also but with a diffrent name.

As for Randolf Carter cant remember him being discribe at all(Could be wrong) so have a look around the pulp threads for any 1930ish type figure you like.

Edit: almost fogot the king in yellow, there are 2-3 figures of him about. Also Rafm dose a leng spider. There are two Nyarlatotep about but do not look like he did in that story.

I've been looking at the CoC Field Guide to the Dreamlands as it's been a while since I read the Dreamlands story. You've certainly set yourself a task.

Firstly, I have to pimp my own thread "Where to Buy Cthulhu Mini's" - well worth a look even if I say so myself, and if some people had looked at it  ::) then they'd know that Reaper's Gug is called a "Gug Eldritch Horror".  ;)

I've not added them yet but Reaper is also a good source of Serpent People. Bloodmoon Mini's have some too.

Men of Leng resemble Satyrs to my eye, and you could consider these by Eureka:

EM4, RAFM, Mirliton & Uncle Mike all produce Nightgaunts.

RAFM & Mirliton have Tsathogguas

Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Moonbeasts, too, quite economically priced and no assembly required.  No Cats From Saturn on the market that I know of, sadly.

Yep, Krysset mentioned them. A Basilisk that resembles the painting in the Field Guide seems more difficult, but then I'm not sure if the Basilisk actually appeared in the Dream Quest or if it's from Robert Chambers' book.

Ah, yes, you'll need cats. Try Mega Miniatures through ebay:

Think quite alot make normal cats, reaper has them in some of the familiar packs, think black cat bases makes some cats. Nobody makes a cat swarm tho.. now that would be Lovecraft :P cant remember what the cats from Saturn looked like.

Maybe, for cats from Saturn, these Malifaux figures could be a good start:
