Need help with 3 Musketeers
« on: 27 October 2011, 06:39:19 PM »
I'm having a moment of indecisiveness...

I'm debating whether I should game this in 28mm or 40mm.
I've narrowed my choice's down to Eureka's 40mm range or Brigade Games 28mm range.
Aside from Redoubt, Blue Moon and the aforementioned companies are there any other companies in these scales?

28mm
Pros: Use existing scenery on hand, larger range of figures/scenery available.
Cons: Will have to "green stuff" figures to get look I'm after....want everyone except Rochefort in tabards

40mm
Pros: Larger than 28mm. Have always wanted to game/paint/build in a larger scale.
Cons: Cost, musketeers aren't wearing distinctive tabards, scenery cost (Grand Manner/ Manor House), limited figures/poses with swords.

Aside from commissioning a range, what would you do?
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

I know Redoubt's line have tabards, and are reasonably priced. PRO
However, I dislike the knee high boots on Athos, Aramis and Rochefort? Am I nuts for that?
There are also some pictures missing of figures that always irks me, I dunno why, it just does.

Pros for 28mm is you can also raid ECW ranges for character figures, civilians, coaches etc... :)

Pro for the Redoubt range is that they're bloody huge - more like 35mm than 'true' 28mm. So that would go some way to satisfying your craving for larger scale figures  ;)

Yep, have to agree and the range is very extensive, lots of figures to choose from. The Eureka figures are lovely, but are limited.

A LAF legend?  :o

Yes frontline have some cracking scenery for a tavern, library, market, Church and bedrooms.

Redoubt have a table and chairs, plus a large ECW range to plunder.

Is it just me but I can't find musketeer figures in 28mm I want to paint. Redoubt are too big & Brigade don't do it for me, still waiting for Foundry/Copplestone/Perry to do the business- I'm sure they'd sell....

Reiver have some C17th French, but no musketeers specifically:

Essex Miniatures have some C17th figures, although no specific French and few pictures:

I really like Brigades stuff and saw some awesome conversions of them on the net but I know I wouldn't get around to doing it so I went with Redoubt.

Iron Wind carries Ral Partha's old 3 musketeers which are in tabards. They are smaller than Redoubt but mix well with an extra washer under the base.
