Octobriana - Russian Zombie Hunter
« on: November 29, 2007, 05:27:20 PM »
I decided to have a bit of a break from Pulp stuff and paint one of the zombie hunters that had been looking unloved on the corner of my desk for a while.

I hope you like her. All comments and criticisms welcome. Especially about the colour scheme, I'm not sure about it for some nagging reason.  :?

Cheers!

First thing I thought was "Selkie", ie the Irish Assassin from one of the NetForce novels...

I like it! But I generally like drab and tan tones, so I may not be too much of an objective observer.

Why yes, ma'am, you may have my seat on the Moscow subway. I am very sorry to have inconvenienced you. I'll just be going now...

(Cool painting. She looks super-pissed.)

Very nice, like the colours, it makes a change from the usual black leather look on that figure.

Thanks guys!

I actually found her face to be one of the hardest I've ever painted, it's so rounded and smooth, and her eyes are really really tiny.

So I'm pleased you like it Pete.  :)

Splendid. Since this is not your main period, I would suggest you varnish the mini if that's not done yet, pack her very carefully and mail her to me. Do it now!

But then who would lead my terrified, underequipped Soviet conscripts out of the zombie infested hellhole that was Chemograd?

You're right of course. Throw them in the box, I'll take good care of 'em.

Absolutely fantastic colour scheme... I will use in mine if you don't mind. I was planning to paint her yellow a-la "Bride", but this schema is fantastic.

Thank you.  :)  I don't think I've ever actually seen one not painted in black leather before, but something about the clothes just said Russian military, possibly tanks or aircraft.

Keyan, please feel free. I'm happy that you like it that much!

Just, y'know, don't paint yours better than mine, yeah?

JB, I like her a lot!

Often you see clothing that clashes with red hair [in real life as well] but your scheme all blends together very well.

You've done a particularly good job on her face. The eyes are fantastic - very hard to do convincingly in 28mm. Even "professional" painters struggle. She is very feminine, yet with the steely resolve of a true killer.

I almost pity those poor zombies when she catches up with them......

Huh?  :?: Sorry, don't follow you old sport. I was gonna try and paint a red star on her somewhere, but couldn't find a spot that would have enough room or not look overdone.

GM, thank you for your kind words. I have been told that the face is the worst bit on another forum, as it is too heavily contrasted and the paint isn't smooth enough. Fair points I think, but I guess personal preference plays a part. And in my defence, Kev White sculpts teeny tiny women!
