Good source for pics of late war British vehicles needed...
« on: December 03, 2007, 10:32:34 AM »
Hi again,

can somebody point me to a good online source for vehicle markings,
camo schemes and colours for the late war British armour and support vehicles?

I have a ton of info for Germans, but I am a bit lost for British.
So far I only see greenish vehicles with virtually no markings...
Is this really so?
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - http://www.adpublishing.de

May I recommend: D-Day to Berlin: Armour Camouflage and Markings of the United States, British and German Armies, June 1944-May 1945 by Terence Wise (Hardcover - 21 Jun 1979)

Amazon should have copies.
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Agis, my favourite references for British army and vehicles are these 2 volumes by Jean Bouchery.  There is very detailed information on uniforms, organisation, equipment and vehicle markings:

Limited number of colour photos but the Imperial War Museum has fantastic photos hich should show markings: http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/qryPhotoImg.asp (search Goch or something similar)

I must admit from watching as much late war comat footage as I could the British seem to have removed most of the markings on their tanks except for the star on the top. Netting obscures much of the rest. In colour generally the tanks should be a dark green, the best picture of which I caa find is http://www.atpainting.co.uk/000_0679.sized.jpg Camouflage schemes seem not to have been used but rather lots of netting instead. Vehicles of this time also seem to have been covered in all kinds of extra kit.

Hope that ehlps somewhat.

I agree with Dom. Those books are a real must. And quite cheap from Amazon too.
