on line sources please.
« on: 22 November 2011, 10:09:06 PM »
I really should not even think of this bcause I need another era like I need an appendectomy but the 'blank' in my "historian self" is embarrassing.

Leaving aside the purely what if/fictional wars (VBCW is an example) what wars besides the Spanish Civil War can I be looking at?  I know there was much turmoil in the Balkans, the Polish-Russian thing, the "working out" of the Russian Revolution but where else were there wars (not just bandits with a "cause" to hide behind) that involve actual armies?

Googling "wars between 1919 and 1938" leads you down a ton of "social history" sites...

gracias,

Glenn

Gran Chaco War 1932-1935.... here, here and here is perhaps the most obvious one.

Chinese Civil War 1927-1937 here and here wins most diverse equipment in a single war and the Sino-Japanese War that brought it to a temporary halt here and here.

Abyssinia 1935 -1936 here.

The Romanian-Hungarian war.

Bolshevik Hungarians led by Bela Kun trying to get back Transilvania lost to Romania, after the collapse of the Empire post WW1.  8)

It's the Back of Beyond in central Europe, and I can't find any decent links, apart from maps.

Um, first link in the Chaco War (which I am embarrasssed to have totally forgotten) - The Joker and Harley Quinn were involved?

That aside, those are great links/subjects to consider.  The Gran Chaco appeals on ethnic reasons but the Chinese Civil War looks to include almost everything equipment-wise from WW1 to WW2!

Muchas Gracias!

Glenn

:o That's what you get for multitasking... fixed it. Could have been worse lol

Yeah, the Chinese seemed to have some of almost everything going, even down to a variety of helmets. If you follow it through to the end of WW2 it becomes even more diverse. The Japanese forces are slightly more colourful than in WW2 as well.

Even better, there's some spillover from the very ragged end of the Russian Civil War into the Warlord-era Chinese squabbles - a lot of the Siberian Whites fled over the frontier into China as the Bolsheviks seized control of Siberia and far eastern Russia.

They brought some toys with them - according to the Osprey on armoured trains, that included at least a few armoured trains, and a number of reasonable-intact combat formations, all of which found employment in the forces of various northern Chinese warlords...
