National Media Museum - Ray Harryhausen [Pic heavy]
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:11:34 PM »
After my trip to Recon today (show review and pics here) I had to go pick my daughter up from Bradford (been partying with Uni friends) so I took more ME time and went to the Ray Harryhausen exhibition in the National Media Museum (as it is now called).

This collection has a changing section currently showing in two displays:

Note these are reproductions for display but still great to see:

First up is Kali:

Then Minaton:

And a poor shot of the Siren figurehead from Sinbad (just could not get a clear pic of her folks):

Details on the figures are very good:

Hung on the side are two drawings.  One would not photo due to light reflections but this one of the Homunculus coming to life is just about OK:

One more figure is up in the animation gallery but I got side tracked in the Donovan Wylie series of pictures on outposts in Afghanistan and Ireland.

If you are in the area spend a few hours (food is great), drop a few pounds in the gift box (as entry is free) and even take in an IMAX film or two!

Worth a visit folks.

Clash of the Titans was after star wars the film of my childhood. Ray harryhausen is a legend and ought to be a great source of inspiration amongst model makers of all sorts.

Years ago, I worked at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as a lowly security guard. The local cinema society was featuring a Ray Harryhausen weekend, with the Man Himself in attendance Saturday night, and during a gap in his schedule, he asked to visit the museum.

I was pulled from patrol duties to escort his party around,  unlocking doors to take him behind the scenes to visit the paleontology lab, the taxidermy and display shop, and the (vast) cold storage vault where the museum kept all the mounts not currently on display. (We called it "The Dead Zoo")

A great day.

Nothing lowly about keeping people and property safe from harm................  :)
