Jon and Mako,

The linked boat from ebay looks too small even for 15 mm.  I have 16 ships for 15 mm that started life sort of looking like your link - but definitely bigger than what is pictured there.  Since it's been a few years since I've seen them readily available, I wonder if the factory in China that was making them went belly up.  I did see one in a mall "gift" shop recently where the prices can gouge out your eyes - even on sale.  On rare occasions, I saw similar ships that would work in 28 mm, generally going for around $60-75 US.  But, again, rare outside of the overpriced gift shops - and $120 plus.  For photos of our ships, go to this blog:

http://carobbeansea.blogspot.com/

and go to the earlier posts where all 16 ships appear in photos.

(also, Jon, you can see some of the 2000 plus figures.  hope to have more next week to photograph and post to the blog)

Really useful thoughts, great blog by the way.  I've been looking at the Ainsty ships (up to around £75 per ship), the Minimi ones, good range there, but you need to buy the cannons as extras and I hope the Stronghold ones are available again soon.

Yea, for 25mm/28mm, you really need a vessel at least 20" - 24" long, for a small multi-masted warship, based upon measurements I have seen quoted for the 20 - 24 gun Men of War/early Frigates (6th Rates).

Apparently, a lot of these from around 1710 - 1720 were about 80 - 90 feet long (supposedly measured between the keel upright members), so probably about 100 feet for the hull length, overall (not including the bowsprit).

The Ainsty Man of War seems to be about spot on for that, and looks very nice.

The Old Village Green vessels look fairly attractive too.

I hope Stronghold, or someone else puts both their 15mm and 25mm Pirate vessels back into production soon.

Any word on whether Stronghold will be starting operations back up soon?

Last I heard Mike was attending some of the UK conventions, but that is info from about a year ago, and I haven't seen any more updates since then.

Not sure about Stronghold, the website is up and running - if a little confusing to navigate.  Don't know whether the range is available or not.  I bought a huge French and Indian Wars fort from Mike at a Salute a couple of years back.  Really heavy, came up really nice.
For the big ships, I think Ainsty is the way to go.

Cheers GM - think the pirates are Copplestone.  Noticing the sculpting differences now that I'm painting some Perry Indian Mutiny - have to say that the Copplestone ones are slightly easier to paint - the detailing is clearer.  Might just be the age of the moulds perhaps.

The Foundry cutthroat range was done by Will Hannah, Jon. But excellent figures, I do agree, and easy painting. (I have 150 of them! ;))

I stand corrected - but they are excellent.  The style is very Copplestone or is Copplestone very Hannah?

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Some new figures painted up.  First up the six pirate crew flags:

Next some escaped slaves who will be a crew on one of the sloops:

Finally some plastic pirates:

More soon.
