Ink vs wash?
« on: 21 December 2011, 10:46:39 AM »
When I first got into painting there was inks, and now when I after 16years of non-painting begin again there are these washes also. Don't really remember how the inks worked but got some washes. Can someone please explain the difference between ink and washes, as I understand they are same same but different. Where to use the one or other etc.?

Inks have a much higher pigment concentration and can be used to make washes. Other then that I haven't found much of a use for inks tbh but that's probably due to lack of knowledge about them :)

Definitely higher pigment content in Inks compared to Washes.  Also Inks tend to be gloss finish while Washes are Matt.

There are loads of articles on the WEB detailing how to make washes.

For a quick recipe try

Future/Kleer Floor Polish
Distilled Water
Flow improver
Paint or Ink as the colour

Keep in a small bottle and shake before use.
