WIP Old Glory Dwarf Britannia minis
« on: 30 December 2011, 09:40:33 PM »
Never quite sure how pics work on here, but let's assume it's like this:

WIP shot, as I finally progress with the painting (these have been on my painting table since just after the Atlantis camapaign kicked off, maybe 20 months or something). If, and when, and if, I finally finish them, I'll post them over at the VSF board, as they are supposed to be the Morlock Allied Native Infantry Contingent, native soldiers from Atlantis who have taken the Queen's Shilling and have been kitted out in old uniforms from the Zulu War.

In honour of our own Skrapwelder and Thunderchicken, who helped me find my way to the minis themselves, you can see in this shot Captain Skarpvuldr (which means 'sharp-ruler' or 'pointy-commander' in Morlock, apparently - very fitting as he's a commander and got a sword) and Sergeant Dondershuggen (which means 'thunderous wobbling' it seems - again quite fitting I think).

If the Orcs from the Darke Lands range ever get done, Chairface and Rob Alderman will find their namesakes Zharvas and Rubuldrork pressed into service too. Here's hoping...

Thanks Jonas. I am one of the world's worst painters, bad eyesight and shakey hands are not a good combination, but never mind, they are after all supposed to be toys to play games with. The sculpts are OK, I know some people don't like Old Glory but these are all right.

I have now begun painting up a scout to go with them, a Pith-helmeted 'Hunter' from GW's 'Dwarf Adventurers' set (as Jonas himself has posted here - link). This stout (but smaller than the OG dwarfs) I think will be called either 'Jeagebard Frigling' or 'Frigbard Jaegling'. In the one case, that's 'Hunting-beard Little F***er' and in the other, 'F***-beard Little Hunter'. He's a bit reluctant to come out for the camera though as he's not proplerly dressed yet.

In other news, doing some research into what colour I should paint Sergeant Dondershuggen's 'sash', I realised it might be a rolled-up blanket; and also, what I had painted as some kind of puttes or spats were probably intended to be the top of the dwarves' boots. Ah well, we live and learn...

Get them finished ;D  They look great. I love the sergeant at the back. They made me think of the GW "Hunter" too although the one I posted a good while back was in khaki.

If I was starting from scratch I'd probably paint them all in khaki, but I have some lovely Ironclad British Infantry in red coats - painted by majorsmith, so they're the best-looking troops I have, and I thought I'd paint everyone else similarly kitted out. I'll get them sorted soon, honest.

I love these figures and keep meaning to buy some for some fun VSF shenanigans. Old Glory UK dont stock them but will order them in on request.

Keep 'em coming RO.

You told me that I had to ask them nicely to get them for me when I was unable to find them (and I did, and they did). Because you were so lovely and helpful yourself, that's the main reason why I ended up calling my sergeant 'Dondershuggen' ('thunderous wobbling'). That's as close to 'Thunderchicken' that I could get in Low Morlock I'm afraid.

You have no idea how disappointed I'm going to be when I meet you in the flesh, in my mind, you're two guys who look like Windsor Davies, one shouting and the other taking up a defensive position somewhere (in Shropshire). ;)

Right:

here's a group shot with Sergeant Dondershuggen, the newly (partly) painted 'Frigbard Jaegling' (thanks Jonas for help with the name!) the Dwarf Adventurer from GW on the square base, and Captain Skarpvulda... more pics on my blog, which is in my signature.

There's still a few bits of touching up to do, as well as basing of course, but I'm a bit happier with the whole affair now.
