I'm looking for cannibal paint jobs
« on: 30 December 2011, 11:14:02 PM »
I have the Old Glory 25s' cannibals and would like to see some of the cannibal paint work others have done.  I thought the cannibals in Pirates of the Caribbean looked great (if memory serves).  Unfortunately the truth is I'm better at copying ideas than originating them.  Hope you can help.  Thanks. Richard

Richard, got a DVD player?  If yes, rent - or buy - the movie and hit pause.  If not, buy a DVD player, do as indicated.

Maybe this will help? Google pirates of the caribbean cannibals have a look-see...

Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

FifteensAway, Thank you; have both and plan to do as you suggest but would still like to see how others translate paint onto figures.  Johnno, thank you too; now I wish I had all those old Nat'l Geographic mags.  Much appreciated both.  Richard

Johnno, thanks.  This was excellent not just for the view of your cannibals, but because I wasn't aware that Brigade had a line of cannibal figures.  Appreciate it.  Richard

Sorry I don't have any pictures for you, but I can describe a paint job that I've seen. A few years ago I played in a pirate game at a regional convention that featured about 70 to 75 of those Old Glory pirate line cannibals. It looked like the painter had painted the skin in a light to medium brown, with a darker wash. There was no "warpaint" that I remember on the bodies. The grass skirt/kilt was probably straw and light green in color. The thing that was really striking was that, instead of painting black hair, the painter used a sort of mud brown, as if the cannibals had caked their hair in mud. I thought that was really creative. It was a really interesting look for those figures, and it helped to make that game memorable.

Interesting thread.

I am myself planning on getting some OG cannibals for a Pirate game we will run this summer, I would much appreciate any inspiration too.

I do plan to paint mine much dark skinned, so they can double for our VSF games in Africa too. But if some great idea comes up I might change my mind.

 :D

Just the other day I did a search on the forum for cannibals and there is a few pics floating around here and there.

And probably more if you have patience to look around. Good luck.

Jonas,

I am there with you, my pirate natives are getting painted up to do double duty for Africa games as well.  Still would love to see more Polynesian style natives - in 15/18 mm!  Peter Pig's natives are a start but needs to have "civilian" figures and women and kids added for me to do what I want with them.

Does anyone have any thoughts for shields used by Congo Cannibals and in particular painting schemes for them?

I've just about finished my terrain/movement bases and i'm about to start work on the natives

Thanks
