The MPs are Kr*&%$ (sorry Germans)
« on: January 08, 2012, 03:09:36 PM »
I did this set based on the real and fictional Greif unit of MPs in the Ardenne Forest in '44.

The GMC is the front half from an old French company called Jouet France and the cargo bay and tilt I scatch built.

The jeep is a redone Corgi

The Dodge is an old Len Buller kit form B&B.

Im not sure what your title means

Operation Greif involved SS units impersonating allied troops in the Ardennes.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Greif

Gosh.  Nazis not abiding by the rules of war.  Who'd have thought it?

Back from the dead, almost.

You need to watch the classic (if slightly inaccurate) war film BATTLE OF THE BULGE.

There is a scene where some GI's (led by Charles Bronson) come across some MPs acting as engineers (who are Germans dressed to confuse the enemy). One of the GI shouts "The MPs are Krauts" which is what I called this set)

I ran a game for my club in 20mm based on this and I played the MP squad, but one of the canier players rumbled it!

It is based on real event (the Germans wore blue scarves to identify themselves to their fellow Germans). They got caught and some were shot in the field as they were breaking the rules of war.

I did not want to put it in the title directly for the sake of our German members.

Thanks for the compliment.

I just added to my blog about those sneaky Krauts too but with their Ersatz M10s.

Great idea in planning but them dog-faced GIs just didn't fall for the ruse.

Great paint,

Apparently GI's took to asking any units they ran into about baseball - so if you didn't know who won the last World Series you were in trouble.

Thanks for the compliment.

BB

PS just noticed you are from the Lone Star State - My club did ACW units for a big CHristmas game, and I did (amongst others) some Texsas Infantry, which are my favs of the bunch. I could post some shots if you like in the relevant forum section.

Everyone who is into the history of the War of Northern Aggression loves Hood's and Ross' Texas Brigades.

Would love to see them pics,
Brian

You really need to watch "Battleground" then -- its the BEST movie ever made about the Bulge, kept small scale squad level, good acting and actors. Won an Oscar in 1949. Has a german infiltrator scene as well.

The beginning of Heart's War has a pretty cool scene with them sneaky Germans as well.  In fact, that sets the stage for the lead getting caught and sent to a POW camp.

Great looking set of figures and vehicles you have there.

You need to watch the classic (if slightly inaccurate) war film BATTLE OF THE BULGE.

Agreed it is an inaccurate and somewhat confusing movie - it's not really clear about the fate of Bastogne and without a little history you could be forgiven for thinking the Germans captured it (at least that hows its always felt to me!)

Couldn't agree more great film as much about human drama as the battle itself.

Great job on the vehicles.
Really nice job on the truck.
May I ask who makes the figures?
Semper Fi, Mac
