Hey, we can accept that Nazis somehow managed to fly to the Moon and survive there for over half a century with weird futuristic technology, but we can't accept that Sarah Palin could somehow make a comeback and be elected to any public office more weighty than "Little League chauffeur mom"?

You have to open yourself up to extreme possibilities, Scully!

Lol, thanks for the giggle :)

Scientific proof that disbelief can only be suspended to a specific degree!

Well, even IRL everyone's a skeptic about some claims. I'd suppose it's much the same mechanism that is involved in suspension of disbelief.

Hey folks, I went to watch Iron Sky last Saturday in a local theatre.

What can I say, this movie is great! The budget of 7.5 million EUr doesn't show at all - In a good way! There's lots of CGI involved, and it doesn't look any worse than a Michael Bay movie, so kudos to the effect companies for doing amazingly realistic effect shots on a very tight budget. There was no single scene where the CGI actually looked like obvious CGI. This counts both for pure CGI scenes like the battles in space and overhead shots of the moon base as well as scenes in which life actors were composed into a CGI environment, everything worked flawlessly.

The film is also very funny, I didn't laugh that hard since seeing Hot Fuzz a few years ago. Every gag (and there's lots of em) works, and a handful are just brilliant (no Spoilers, but you'll know what I mean when I say "Downfall", "North Korea" and "UN fight"). If you were able to laugh about Team America, then you'll love this one, as most of the humor is derived from the peculiarities of international (co-?)existence, especially in regards to stereotypical American Jingoism  ;)

The acting is solid I guess, it probably helps that I saw it in German which means that at least two of the main actors spoke in their native languages (Götz Otto and Julia Dietze).

Speaking of which, the acting of Julia Dietze was at times a little weird, can't put my finger on it, but that could just be the script instead of her acting ability.

One complaint I have is that I wished they had used more music by Laibach, the soundtracks of the trailers were awesome but the movie features little sung music.

Again, not to spoiler anything, but the film actually leans towards a dark, bittersweet ending with some haunting images that reminisce of both post-WW2 history as well as possible future conflict, and that makes the movie on a whole more intelligent and sets it apart from the silly Sci-Fi flic most will probably expect.

Anyway, if you have the chance, go see it, I promise you won't regret it. If you only go to see one movie this year, consider supporting small productions like Iron Sky instead of those run-of-the-mill BlockBusters that swamp the theatres every summer (although I will most definitely go see both Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises  :P

I was under the impression that the entire soundtrack was by Laibach - even though they went for bombastic orchestral instead of bombastic industrial with this one ???

didn't like the movie at all :/. Bad acting, bad humour, bad dialog but the effects were good. Inspirational stuff for gaming though.

Yes, the soundtrack was by Laibach, but they didn't include enough sung songs for my tastes :)

Sorry to hear you were disappointed @ Relic.

Well, I OTOH don't think singing as such suits soundtracks too well although for example Howard Shore managed to use it to great effect in The Lord of the Rings - it was choir work and some vocalizing mostly tho during the scenes.

ETA: I see that the soundtrack album We Come In Peace has been released two days ago. Yay!

Ok, just came back from the cinema and I have to say it's a nice little movie :)
The CGI is great, the acting is not too bad and also some of the gags are good.
A nice small production ;)

I would not say that you have to see it on the big screen but still something worth to support.

The film reminded me that I have to get some of those :D

Saw a preview screening on Monday and am probably going to go again when it get's a regular release next Thursday. Was absolutely hilarious. It's cheesy as hell which just made me think of old Mel Brooks movies. Was with a group of gamers and we lost it laughing a bunch of times through the movie. The SFX are absolutely brilliant, way way way better than they have any right to be for the budget they had. The space ship designs are some of the best I've ever seen on film too.

Saw the film two days ago and... I'm disappointed. Too much Americans, not enough space Nazis for my taste.
It had some good gags (definitely North Korea, and Finland), and the design of all the Nazi equipment was cool, but that's pretty much all.
