Iron Snakes - Flip's Space Marine Thread
« on: September 24, 2009, 07:24:01 PM »
I havent really liked Space Marines, I kind of liked them when I was in school, in the days of Rogue Trader and 2nd Edition (not that I ever played or could paint) not to mention Space Crusade, but after a while you tend to grow out of huge guys in bright red or blue armor.

So its kind of surprising how much enjoyment I got out of painting these guys, and wanting to do more. I suppose its the fact I aint using bright red or blue, but dark metaillic colours.

Anyhow, my first squad of Iron Snakes, I wish I had painted the vet sgt with a white helmet, but at the time I thought it may make him look silly...oh well...

Nice though if you want to be 'nilla accurate, do the vet sgt with a red helmet, would look nice, white helmets are usually 1st company vets.

Keep at it marine!

I think the commander meant Red helmet there.
Red would work a lot better with your colour scheme.

Nice work, Flip.  They are great looking marines ;)

I agree about the red helmet, too, and if I'm being super-picky, I would say that that imperial aquilla on the bolter would look good picked out in gold ;)  Excellent, nevertheless! :D

Nice paintjob but I think you'll get tired of painting them pretty quickly. If not: all the better of course! 8)

I think they look cracking. Easy to mass-paint, too!

*ahem*

According to the Codex Astartes, the correct colour for Sergeant's helmets is as follows:

Red - Sgt
Red with central white stripe - Vet Sgt

Some chapters alter these colours, e.g. the Righteous Fists (mine) use black to denote veterans, giving Vet Sgts red and black helmets.

An all-over white helmet simply denotes a veteran Marine.

Squad Leaders wear a red halo device on their left greave or kneepad, while Sgts should have a red skull on their left shoulder pad (superimposed on the Chapter insignia) or left knee.

Great work Flip!

I was tempted to do some myself after reading 'Brothers of The Snake' but got distracted by other projects (attention span of a Gadfly you know!). Great book with very inspiring description.

I'd love to see some more... ;)
