Painted Conquest Minis. update Feb 2
« on: 19 January 2012, 01:40:23 AM »
Inspired by the posts on the F&IW, I dug out my figures from Conquest and started painting.
Didnot realize that I had purchased so many. (about 100)
Started painting them about the middle of December, last year. (2011) Here is what I had painted so far.

Decided that I wanted figures to be viewed closer. So took a few more.
So you good readers are my guinea pigs. ;)

So what do you think?
It looks like I need to pose fewer figures in the pic and move the camera closer.

Great looking figures. I really like the longer grass effect on the bases...what company makes that. I have placed an order with Eric at Conquest and am still waiting to hear back from him. Money has been taken, I have called and left a couple of messages and I have e-mailed him several times to no avail. I really need the figures for a couple of games I am running in March at a local convention and another one over in the US.

Anyways, thanks for the inspiration as I am really looking forward to getting these figures and painting them up.

Another question for you...what colour do you use for Aboriginal skin tone?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Hitman

Hi Hitman,
Thanks for the comments.
Sorry to hear about your problems with Conquest. I know he is a one man business. Keep trying.
As for the long grass they are made by MiniNatur. One is Tall prairie tufts spring, second is Long baffalo grass tufts summer,
the last is Long buffalo grass tufts, spring. I purchased mine at Scenic Express Model Supplies.
As for the skin I do it like this. Prime figure white. Let dry for about 24 hours as I use washes and inks. You want the figures good and dry.
I make a wash with Delta Ceramcoat burnt umber. Two drops of paint, mixed with two drops of water. Wash over skin of figure.
Let dry, I usually paint about 10 - 12 figures at the same time. By the time the last figure is done, the first is usually dry.
Next, I use Foundry Dusty flesh, this comes in three shades. I pick the shade I like, usually a couple of different ones and dry brush over the skin.
Next I wash over the skin with Windor & Newton Ink, Nut Brown. Sometimes I put it on straight, other times I mix it with water. This depends on how dark I want the skin.
I sometime add another very light drybrush of very light brown, like a trail tan, againt a Ceramcoat paint. I hope this easy to understand.
I will post some closeups of the Indians tomorrow.

Keep the pictures coming, it's always nice to see FIW figures on the boards.

Can I suggest that you add another light source when you are taking the pictures?  You seem to have just one from the top, which is leaving all the detail on the front of the model in shade.  Place a lamp somewhere behind your camera and we can see much better.

Fantastic work!

Well the last of my Conquest Minis.
Painted about 94 of them in about six weeks.
I guess you could say it is the last of my Mohicans. :D

I had lots of fun painting them.
They add a good number of figures to my F&IW stuff.
It's nice to have some figures that are not cast 20 years ago.
Figures have come along way from that time.
