Painted FIW Settlers
« on: January 19, 2012, 01:04:14 PM »
Just finished these lads from the Galloping Major, they go pretty quick and look great.

More info on the blog http://syw6mm.com/2012/01/settlers-defending-1/

I've got six more that should be ready soon.  :)

Looking good. I'm tempted by some of the Galloping Major figures if I ever get around to restarting my FIW project.

Settlers were a doddle to paint. I'd heartily recommend getting the GM figures - and the service is second to none

Big Martin, you can't go wrong with GM and the FIW.

You'll find the whole range painted at this link http://syw6mm.com/tag/fiw/, less the last pack of settlers (soon) and two soldier free (soon again)

Looking good! I might suggest a lite wash to bring out some details and reduce the contrasts of the colors, but otherwise they look nice.

Nice painting on the figures.
A question about different figures ranges.
How do Conquest Minis compare to Galloping Major, size wise?

Very well - Conquest may just be a Gnats' smaller/slimmer

I started with Conquest Marines and then switched to GM for my preferred choice of figures for FIW

A very nice group of Norwegians - or is that Swedes?  Blue eyed all.  Second the wash for added effect.

Yes, they do look a tad clean  ;)
Very neat, bold painting though.
Maybe consider mixing up the shirt colours a bit, with some more natural linen type colours?

Most likely Palatine Germans with the blue eyes. :)  I can't ever really be asked to paint different color eyes as they are the last thing I do on a figure (well, either that or touching up eyes).  All my Indians have brown eyes as well.   :)

The wash is on the figures, but my photography skills must "wash out" the color details.  In fact there's almost too much wash on the white shirts for my taste, I wish I could show it better, but I'm just really happy if my figures are in focus at the moment.  All of the detail on the faces is only visible due to the wash and you can see it most readily on the fingers.  I block paint the hands and the wash shows the individual fingers off as an example.

I have to say that I really enjoy the bold painting style though.  I like being able to see the figures from a few feet away.  I think I would go for a more detailed and realistic look if I could, but I like this style, I have to say it has become "my style".

Fair enough then - as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters  :)

I salute you for being able to paint eyes. My hands are not steady enough to even attempt it!

Very nice - alway nice to see something a bit different from a regular unit, indians or Rangers!

White spots are all I can manage - I have regiments full of men with cataracts!  :D

Here's one of these chaps I painted recently:

Funny with the mentions of blue-eyed Norwegians, Swedes and Palatine Germans, when I was sculpting this fellow I had him in mind as being Albany Dutch  :)
Of course, that was only in my mind  :`

I thought I'd add him to Fergal's thread as these chaps are no longer "things to come", I'll be adding one or two pics to that thread in the coming days though  ;)

Cheers,

Lance

Great Lance!

I got a bit mixed up when this board changed names and I noticed the Big Battalions board and thought we had been moved there?  Anyone else know where we will be with our misfit FIW stuff? :)

Anyway, I posted my latest work on this thread

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=37466.0

They look like this!

Lot's of fun to paint.
