Most popular basing system for 28mm naps?
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:24:28 AM »
Hi all,

Just aqquired my first box of 28mm Perry napoleonic Brits and putting them together, I realised I have no idea how I'm going to base them.
Is there a particular ruleset and basing system that stands out head and shoulders above the others?
Which one should I go with for when I eventually get my butt down to a club?

Cheers

Matt

You've just hit on the eternal question that has plagued Napoleonics players for ever.

WHat you need to do is find out what system your possible opponents are using and make a decision to commit to that system. The only advice I can give is to base your figures in such a way that you can change them later if needed.

Cheers and good gaming! :)

Having looked around I'm surprised to learn that Black powder seems to allow you to field figures without a strict basing system provided both sides are similarly based.

Read some good reviews yesterday so I'll go with that.

Cheers

Black Powder is a good choice.

Every so often I mamnage paint up a battalion of Perry's French Line Infantry (have 4 done now!).

I base them six to a base (using the larger rectangle base in the set - not sure if the same bases are included in the British box!) with each base representing one of the 6 companies in the battalion.

But as already stated better to find out what your opponent is doing and match them - it will save stress and arguments!

Another option is to base singly on pennies and use the bases from "warbases.co.uk" to make stands for units. This way you can play games like Drums and Shako, Sharp Practice as well as big battalion games.
