10mm Naps basing for Black Powder
« on: October 05, 2013, 03:29:39 PM »
Hey!

Surely in your vast gaming travels you have seen some 10mm Naps based for Black
Powder, or using those rules?

I have a bit of a dilemma. What the heck do I do for basing? If I use a 6 base
unit at 20x20 with 4 figures, they will be awful to move. But, that allows for
Line to Square/Battalion Mass to Attack Column to Column. I also put the figures
out like this and it looks like counters and loses the effect of going to the
10mm. Plus the size advantage somewhat disappears.

The other option I am thinking is a single 45x40mm base (I have bags of them)
and going with a single battalion per base. Looks nicer, I can accomplish three
ranks for the Austrians, and can do the same for the French and Russians.
British need to be in two lines, perhaps a wider/less deep base. When in a block
I can get some marker counters cut from Litko for Attack Column, Column, Square.
A bit gamey, but the look is closer to what I imagined. And then table size
works better.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Why not two bases of 45 by 20, simply cut the bases in half. Double ranks on each.

Thus the formations can should for line, column and square. March column can be marked if used.

When I started in the 90s with my first crack at 10mm Naps it's how we did it. Now I use old glory 10s and 4base system for the French, giving a 80mm frontage in line 40 in attack colmn and 30 in march column.... Also means the Cavalry and artillery fit in too,

If you to with the 90mm frontage in line the cavalry and artillery frontage can be worked of this too.

My thoughts )

Hi grant
I would go for 20x20 bases just in case you might try another set of rules say Age Of Eagles then you army would be based up to cater for that set as well. :)

I Have a French and Austrian nap in 10mm and use around 70 bases per game ( that around a corp  size game ,they are on 20x25 bases with 4 figs on them and I don't find it too tacking to move them all,If I roll well that is !but most of the time I will get a brigade that will not move for me   ;)

I think its nice to have a flexible army so you are not tide up in one set of rules .. We all hate rebasing armies,we have all done it in the past .. :-[

Happy gaming LR

Thanks! I started basing today!

I've gone for 12 figures on a 30x30. Happened to have a bag with around 80ish of Baccus ones around. Four bases will be a battalion - 3 of 12 infantry, one command stand. It's going to look good, I think. The GHQ figures are a bit bendy, so the extra bit of base at the front is great to help protect the little fellas. And the base is very easy to pick up!

A bit of a blurry quick pic, basing material is Golden pumice gel and is drying:
