Kitbashing heaven...I hope
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:27:30 AM »
Light Recon Vehicle

After seeing Silent Invader's excellent ARV on his thread I've decided to do my own version, using an old diecast jeep from a military playset (bought at Toys R'Us).

After disassembling it, I started by covering the windshield:

Including the one covered by the canvas top (weird place to put one):

And the windows:

Then I decided I wanted to build up the back of the vehicle. It needs to be capable of supporting an automated turret and transporting a couple of troops (I imagine it being capable of accommodating 5 soldiers, one being the driver):

I've used a Land Raider bit I had for the back door (now I need another :\)

And after covering up the rear:

The vehicle is just the right size for my Rapid Reaction Force (aka Vor Union Troopers)

Love it! Great idea using the GW part for the door. You need another?

Yes, do you have one that can spare?  :? I've got lots of Rhino doors but this is the only Land Raider one  :?

I've changed the thread name so it reflects what I want to do - a topic about all the kitbash stuff in my pile. The Light Recon Vehicle is on standby for now and I'm trying to do a dropship.

Main ingredients:

Plus parts from several cheap (and by cheap I mean realllly cheap - £1 in a Chinese store) 1/72 F16 kits

First, some trimming of parts from the bottom half of the F16:

And then I have to enlarge the rear door on the APC:

This is what I was trying to achieve...and it works!

After lots of cutting, here's a mockup with blue-tack holding everything together:

The engines are going to be here:

And I'm still working on some wings:

Things to do: add more greebles to the frontal top of the vehicle. Cover all the holes near the rear rudders. Make a rear door and ramp. Make some sort of chin turret with guns. Make a landing gear (maybe using two-prong electrical socket protectors/covers). Add hardpoints to the wings.

It looks great already. Good idea!!

The sickle in the fruitful field;
The sword he sung a song of death,
But could not make the sickle yield."

Glad you guys liked it. And here's another thing I kitbashed:

My idea was doing something like this:

It's a little M1 tank (can't be used with my 15mm figures for being to small) with the turret removed. I've inserted a metal plug in that hole and kitbashed a new turret - the black base is a magnet, the main "body" are tile spacers; the yellow ball (it's going to be a optical sensor) is just a cheap plastic bead. The lasers guns are from a Robogear mini and the missile launchers are from another toy. I'm planning on doing a cargo version of the vehicle, plus one with just missile launchers.

If you want more fodder for kitbashing, the Robogear stuff is perfect for that. Not as cheap as models from a 1€ chinese bazar, but far cheaper than GW or anything similar.

Yes, I've got 5 of the big starter boxes and 3 of the smaller ones, plus assorted models. Most of the models can be used - even those lousy figures - and the paints are great for scenario painting.

And I hope I can finish it this Sunday. It's the only day off I have this week  :?

Ok, never finished the other projects, but started a new one ;)

I present the Euroforce Industries Zyklop MBT-AG (Anti-grav):

I know it doesn't look much by this picture. Just a lousy railgun (made with a disposable razor handle and thin copper tubing) and some plastic beads on a 1/48 model of a Leopard 2 (made by Academy, btw).

But when you see the rest of it...

Anti-gravity, how does it works?  :o I don't know! I just glued some blade protectors and parts of the wheels from the tank on its bottom and that seems to make it fly! I took some inspiration from this:

Anyway, there's even an optic sensor on the front so they can see the terrain below/ahead ;)

Better pictures and more updated tomorrow! I hope...

I was thinking about starting up a sci-fi skirmish game...and after looking at some 1930's armored vehicles I started envisioning them as junker space shuttles and boarding craft etc...I've got the kit bash bug too.  lol
