French WWI White Armored Car -- need info re: turret
« on: January 31, 2012, 08:24:14 PM »
I'm starting on Scheltrum's French WWI White Armored Car. It has a cylindrical turret with two beveled sides, like the one on a Rolls Royce or Lanchester AC. But I've found photo reference online that maybe the turret was a regular cylinder without bevels.

Can anyone provide info re: accuracy of this turret for 1918 time period?

Was the beveled turret a French design and the regular cylinder U.S.?
Did the beveled turret perhaps come after WWI as a retrofit (when?), even as late as WWII?

Thanks

I'm no expert on this, but from what I can see, the (later) ones made by Laffly in France have the curiously shaped turret, while the ones actually made by White in the US have a plain cylindrical turret. There's plenty of pics of both types online.

:)

Thanks. I have seen all these photos. I'm asking how or when the beveled turret came about, whether it was used in WWI or came later.

I would be very grateful if you post pics of this model when it's finished.

It's in for assembly as we speak.
