WIP Ancient civilians
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:04:54 AM »
Hi guys, I'm back with some more carefully coaxed compound in the form of this guy:

Still a little bit rough, but not too far from the end I think. He will be made into a dolly where I will later add different heads and arms depending on what they're up to. He could be doing all sorts of things, really.

What do you think? And while we're at it, what do you think would be some useful poses?

I'd like to have some cheering their favourite gladiators, and also doing some "daily life in ancient carthage" type stuff: farming, working, selling wares, escaping in fear from their cruel masters... that kind of thing.

This is for a project that will hopefully see completion early next year...

Check in to my blog for some more photos :)

Sound like you're on the perfect track. Arena civilians are certainly something needed.

How The Dozing Dragon said, you're on the right track, agree. I think there is a market and lots of interest in Ancient Civilians. Try it with small sets, 3-5 figures each - arena set, seller, farmer, slaves. And better don't try to start too many different things at the same time. Try to keep the track :)

Thanks for the advice guys!! I've been sculpting at home, at work, on the train, I carry a little box with my stuff in it :) Well, as you can see, I have been using the time productively:

These are two dollies, almost complete now. I will be getting some copies cast so I can make additions... maybe two or three variations depending on how they turn out :)

Hope you like them! More of what I've been up to on my blog: http://intergalacticgames.blogspot.com.au/

Well, I have received the dollies a little while ago and have done some work on the first civilian, a cheering/chanting man:

Still a fair bit to go, particularly his eyes, and hands, but you get the gist. Any comments are much appreciated.

Cool! You're good at sculpting. How did you cast them?

Why, thanks! I still have a way to go before I quit my dayjob, though!

I am not very happy with the head.

Nic at Eureka was kind enough to cast these for me.

The next variation on the same body I am working on will be a cloaked Romano-British warrior.

Nic is a very decent chap. Full of ideas and advice.
I may see you at the store some day.
