Obscure question
« on: December 30, 2007, 04:06:14 AM »
I'm writing the fluff for the next game I'm running and have run into a slight glitch which will be sloved if any one know if Hiram Maxim or Karl Benz were Freemasons?

One of the personalities in the game will be trundling around the veldt in the latest model touring car which mounts a maxim gun, both will be somewhat unreliable but (hopefully) fun and I want a somewhat more exotic way of him getting both other than 'he brought them in a shop'

Well I would think that they could be if you want them to be.

Thing about Freemasons is that they don't always tell you they are. Alternatively they could just be big chums of the Freemasons without actually being members.

There's a list of known famous Freemasons on Wikipedia (if you trust that). Neither of them are on it. Of course, that doesn't mean they weren't Freemasons, just that we don't know that they were.

Maxim was a life-long sufferer of Bronchitis, and Benz died of it. Perhaps both they and your character all belonged to a Bronchitis-sufferers' club and mutual support group?  :)

Sorry, that's the best I could do.

Secret Inventor's Guild or something, perhaps?
