You can see there is a definite McBride flavour to his work. Cracking artwork, I hope Osprey will commision him a lot in the future.

Absolutely.
He is definitely (consciously or otherwise) using many of Angus McBride's visual tricks and techniques. It's not just in the composition of the paintings, it's the texture, the colour palette, the style of the figure drawing, and favourite McBride motifs like the circling crows...

When I was still a yoof (like, 30 years ago), I wrote to Angus McBride to ask him about his painting techniques, because I yearned to paint like him. I got a very nice, long handwritten letter back from him (he lived in South Africa) explaining all about it.
I really must find where I put it! 

He was a superb artist and a very nice man to boot. Sorely missed...

I'm involved with this in a small way, as Dan Mersey has tried to get some pictures of my Arthurian models into the book (which is rather exciting for me!).
However, I genuinely know nothing more about it beyond what is on his blog page, as everything I have done has been through Dan and not through Osprey.
Am actually seeing Dan at the weekend, and will chat to him about it then, but am sure it's an August release too.

Yowser!  A corking piece of art and atmosphere for the front cover.  Love the circling ravens and crows - very appropriate.  Let's see more of this chap's work in Osprey books, please.

I'm gutted that I didn't see this before today...it was only a chat with Dan Mersey at the weekend that made me realise it was up on the net.  Having read the playtest copy of the rules, I am a big fan and think that they could be very popular, especially as an antidote to the £25+ hardback craze that seems to be dominating wargames rulebooks at the moment.

I believe release date is August, subject to the usual vagaries of publishing.

Quite. That is a craze which deserves to be resisted for the blatant profiteering it is! Do we want nicely produced wargames rules in full colour with lots of lovely eye candy? Yes we do. Do they need to be hardback, printed on vellum, and stuffed full of padding to justify the hard covers and an inflated cover price of 25 to 30 quid? No they don't.
It's madness. I can't believe how many people buy the fecking things... 

Now these not only look good, but might set a new standard for beautiful but affordable presentation.
