That's what i was thinking. Very Angus McBride, and yet... Not quite... It could be him, but it could be an imitator. Would love to know. It's certainly 'in the style of', but something about it doesn't quite look like the work of the late-lamented master...

Either way, i agree it's a wonderfully evocative painting.

The cover art is by José Daniel Cabrera Peña.

Here is a link to a short youtube video which takes a step-by-step look at the painting of the picture -

Great cover!

Cheers,

Barry

Angus certainly set the standard, which others have to try and emulate  ;)

The composition of the figures in the shieldwall has the feel of Bruegel.  An attractive piece.

Well,  what I thought too, it’s not that typical heroic action scene where the forces are clashing horns. Some of the guys look really frightened. Great piece of art.

Not quite 'fruity' enough for Angus, no rippling biceps, manly chests or toned calves on display. The 'Tom of Finland' of wargaming porn. Vale.

Like the art. Don't like the type treatment or the other graphic design elements.

I'm glad you like Jose's art – I geeked out massively when I first saw the finished piece (and I knew it was coming!) – I'm hoping he'll do more work for us in future.

He does a lot (if not all) of the covers for Desperta Ferro, many of which can be found on his blog:

Gorgeous.
He is definitely the inheritor of Angus McBride.

The 'Tom of Finland' of wargaming porn.

 lol

Thought I shudder to think what the rules set might contain...  :o

Great cover for Dux Bellorum though.  :)

Been a BIG fan of Angus McBride for years.

I must say that this illustration is fantastic, it has all the atmosphere of an angus illustration, and is beatifully executed in every other way. I really hope we will see alot more of this artists work in the future.
